Re: New sea kayaking company in the Canary Islands
Stumbled across this post again so thought I'd update to say I have continued going out to Lanzarote a couple of times each year between Nov-March and on each occasion booked 2-3 days with Juan & Sarah. Service, guiding and equipment remain excellent. They seem to have more organised groups/clubs vi...

Esquif Raven OC1 £750 - now sold
Time to move this on. It's been a good boat for me in that it is a very stable and forgiving (compared to some OC1) which has enabled me to dabble in OC1 without needing to commit more time than I wanted. It's Royalex, in good nick and factory fitted with saddle and thigh and knee straps, adjustable...

Esquif Blast demo in South East
Long shot but anyone in the South East with a Blast that I might be able to demo? I remember seeing a group with one on the Medway at Yalding so assume there is at least one lurking around somewhere! Please pm if you know of one.

Re: 3 star sea course, somewhere warm!
Recently did a couple of days with Sea Kayaking Lanzarote. http://www.seakayakinglanzarote.com/ Not sure what they offer in terms of formal award training but worth dropping them a line to ask. I think Sarah travels regularly from Scotland to Lanzarote and was recently highlighting how cheap the fli...

Re: New sea kayaking company in the Canary Islands
Just got back from a weeks holiday in Lanzarote and booked a couple of day trips with Sea Kayaking Lanzarote having spotted this post a few months back. The first was a trip along the coastline of Papagayo in the South of the island and the second was a superb trip from Orzola in the North across to...

Re: 3* Touring Kayak info
That is true Jim, but the Touring awards haven't been around too long and I'd like to think that the folk who created the award could see some validity in including these things. The canoeing section includes poling so it's not a straight cut and paste form the canoe awards and probably a bit dising...

Re: 3* Touring Kayak info
I'm familiar with sailing rigs like the windpaddle and flat earth sales, but only really see the latter being used by serious sea kayak folk and sailing isn't on the 3* sea. I guess I'm partly questioning the usefulness of some of these things in a touring kayak context. I use them all for canoe exp...

3* Touring Kayak info
Anyone training this award who can expand on what they'd cover for the Beyond the Paddle section and particularly for: 1) Improvising sails 2) Rafting 3) Using line to move up and down moving water 4) Headlands Familiar with all of these from a canoeing perspective but specifically interested in tou...

Spraydeck recommendations
May look to replace my current deck with a sea deck for a new xplore L. Any particular recommendations? Had a quick look at the Peak Explorer deck which comes in a composite size as well as keyhole and bigdeck. Looks like the composite size might be a tighter fit than the keyhole.

What's happened to all the EA gauges? Looks like things have changes with info being held differently for England (Gov.UK) and Wales (Natural Resources Wales).

Re: Layer me up!!
I'm on my second IR union suit. First one lasted about 6 years and then started to wear the knees through (open boating). I consider it to be one of my best bits of paddling gear. I don't find it gets too warm in milder weather, it dries quick, is warm when wet and very comfy. I tend to wear it unde...

Thanks for the replies. Re: Typhoon MS Hinge Drysuit
Is the neck seal different? A mate has just got one of their other hinge suits and loves the entry system I think their previous suit that used the Hinge system was the Equator which had latex neck whereas this has a neo glideskin seal. I'm assuming the Hinge MS suit will be aimed at WW paddlers an...

Re: Kayak fleet for scouts sujestions please
We have dynamos, infra reds and redlines plus some scooter SOT's. The dynamos were added a couple of years ago and much better for the smaller ones when they move up from cubs which is usually when they start the weekly paddling sessions. Could do with some larger boats for the larger scouts and exp...

We did Loch Tay to Perth a few weeks ago in low levels. There is a blog here which includes a video showing the main features on the decent at low levels. http://www.songofthepaddle.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?50049-Loch-Tay-River-Tay It also includes a link to a SCA Tay decent guide that we found he...

MWE Touring Training - Kent Area Aug 27/28
Short notice but place has become available if anyone looking for one. You'll need a CR form which you can probably still turn around if you have all the pre-reqs. Cost £100. Phil Hadley will be providing the training. PM if interested.

Re: Suggestions for summer whitewater action
Being tucked into the south east, you might consider popping across the Channel; the river Canche is really nice, although with limited whitewater it does have a slalom course. Easy for a weekend away camping in Montreuil. I was going to suggest the same. Take your canoe and kayaks and do a mixture...
