Re: VHF antennae on a kayak mounted pole ?

You can't just remove the hand-held's antenna and mount it higher. It won't work without a ground plane. Attached to the radio the body of the radio itself and capacitive coupling to one's body acts as a ground plane. A VHF marine band antenna is usually a half -wave antenna with built-in matching f...

Re: Paddle Show, Perth - An Feis Mhor

Will miss it this year as I'm offshore Angola once again. I really enjoyed it last year, especially being able to meet a few people for the first time that I'd only ever chatted to on-line or on here. Maybe next year!
Enjoy.

Re: Lost Radio

The radio was found the day after I lost it, right at the bottom of Nairn Harbour slipway by a local Jet Skier. It was well hidden amongst the seaweed growing on the end of the slipway. It must have come off when I was climbing out of my Kayak on to the concrete slipway about two feet higher than th...

Lost Radio

I somehow lost my Icom M35 hand-held radio while paddling at Nairn on Friday evening. It was clipped on to one of my PFD pockets, and the lanyard was attached to the same clip that my whistle was clipped on to. The whistle was still there when I got back to Nairn harbour, but not the radio. I hadn't...

Great image, and somewhat explains why It's always windy where my holiday house is in Golf del Sur at the South of Tenerife.

I was involved in a similar conversation last year at a demo day on Loch Ness, and heard the same comment that Alice heard. Having said that, I have had no problems with the Xcape-X that I bought from Stuart a couple of years ago.

Received mine months ago, but couldn't get them to stick down on my Xcape without wrinkles. They're usable, but look crap. Not blaming the manufacturer. If they're still available I'll buy another set and try again.

Superb photos, as usual Douglas. I would gladly argue with you over a pint or dram as to which is the most scenic. I paddled Elgol to Coruisk, then around Soay, last summer along with Kirsten from Inverness. I would definitely say that it was my best day of paddling to date. The scenery was breathta...

Re: sea kayak hire Tenerife

Hi Scahill, I've been in Golf del Sur since early December, but haven't managed to find any sea kayak hire companies or groups in the South of the Island. However there is a sea kayaking club in the North, i.e, Santa Cruz, but they don't have any club kayaks for hire or loan. As I plan to spend the ...

Re: need introduction in the star level system and more

Hi Kirsten, Welcome to Scotland, and the Moray Firth area. FYI, there are also kayak clubs in Nairn, and Elgin. I don't know what your working hours are, but if you need a paddling partner, I live in Nairn and am available most days. There are some very nice places to paddle in this area, and you ar...

Re: Deck Slates

Now resolved.
My FU. I sent the payment to the wrong address (one incorrect character in the E-address) Paypal didn't take the money from my a/c, and I hadn't noticed that.
Many thanks to Mike for helping sort this out.

Anyone know what's going-on?

Paddling In Tenerife

I recently bought a holiday home in Tenerife, and we plan to spend the Winter months there for the next couple of years.
If there´s anyone else on this forum who holidays in Tenerife, and would like to get in touch with a view to forming a sea kayaking group, please get-in-touch.
