Re: River Dart - Dartmeet to New Bridge - the 'Upper Dart'

There is a new pay and display system at Holne Bridge. It costs £2, bring your change. If you can afford to spend £1000s on drysuits and plastics boats and shiny paddles and money on fuel driving down the A38, you can afford £2 to park. They have reduced the size of the car park from what it was 10...

Sweet did have a uk sales/service rep in port talbot. I dealt with them a while back when some mtb shorts failed.

They were really helpful but my initial point of contact was the main sweet support line from their website.

there needs to be a 8.75. an 8.5 for me at 85kg was a fairly wet ride and a 9 was just too big.

Re: grade 2/3 rivers

the really nice Grade 2 section of the Walkham from grenofen bridge to the slot drop can easily be hiked back up. its about 2km with an easy track on river right. alternatively, Denham bridge get out from the Tavy is about 3-4km (with a big hill) in a straight line from Grenofen bridge. Its not the ...

I can leave my house, paddle the Dart loop, jog the shuttle and be home in about 1hr 45-2hrs. Probably about 40mins on the water.

Re: Dagger Axiom Sizing Advice

at 85kg I found the 8.5 a little too low volume. very tail happy and a pretty wet ride on harder water.

i sold it and bought a mamba 8.1 but could never get on with it.

I picked up bargian 9.0 earlier in the year. not paddled it much yet but it is a much bigger boat.

Are all the monitors down by the sewage works? I've walked along through the river in town before and it's smelt quite special and that's a mile or so upstream of the treatment plant?

Happy with my T5 but I'd get the LWB if I were buying again. That extra 18" would come in handy.

Re: Running the loop when it's scrapey (or "empty")

If people are led to believe that paddling the loop at low levels is wrong/pointless/impossible/dangerous then there's a good chance they'll miss out on some perfectly good paddling. i think there is a differentiation between winter low and summer low. the weekend in question was summer low and as ...

Re: Running the loop when it's scrapey (or "empty")

when the loop is empty, the mtb'ing, climbing, walking etc is great on the moors.

no point being a one trick pony when levels are so dependent on rainfall.

Re: Running the loop when it's scrapey (or "empty")

However getting on the Cherry Brook to access the West Dart at any level is highly likely to upset EA's local fisheries officer who rarely gets to use his statutory powers of arrest. Paddling here is one location I have been told would get him reaching for his handcuffs. I drive past here twice a d...

Large tree blocking the main line on the G2/3 rapid by Tavy cottage

It's easily visible from the large pool above and in high water you can probably sneak river right.

I had one about 1998? Kayaks&paddles let me take it out on demo knowing full well I'd buy it.

Fast for its size, loose, sometimes to loose. This was in the days before fins.
