For sale: Nimbus Zoom Sea Kayak (composite)
I am selling a Nimbus Zoom composite kayak. The boat was bought secondhand by me from a Kayak instructor and though knowing it was an advanced boat, I though I would have more time to learn how to use it safely (I'm a novice). This is not the case and i've used it about three times in two years so i...

Re: Which family kayak?
We have had a malibu xl for 3 years and it is absolutely great. It can fit myself, wife, 6 year old and 4 year old in at once for short trips and two/three of us for longer expeditions. Ours has a big hatch in the centre which opens up to the hull so we can stuff loads of gear, trolley, spare clothe...

Came across this one the other day whilst reading a blog http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_nsV_JJCpphE/SfMRvPGu4mI/AAAAAAAAAiE/ICoQMbJMqjQ/s1600/742125.jpg Apparently it only weighs in at 2.4 pounds and has a very useful hook to secure to the cockpit. The blogger who is a sectional sea kayak buff carries hi...

Re: Poole Harbour route
Wareham has a public slipway on the right of the bridge - there is a canoe/kayak hire place there but the slip is public and free. You can also launch from Redsands which is 500m down the channel and parking/launch is £2 or £4 depending on season (I guess £2 now!) Paddling from wareham quay to the m...

Re: Sea kayak trolleys
I can see how they might wear with time , however I have had my trolley for a year and so far they click in place like new. for pumping the tires I found the little pump which came with my duaghters push chair worked a treat. It has a flexibe hose connector like the old bike pumps of yore. These typ...

Re: NG Kayaks
I couldn't agree more. I saw those ads when I was looking for a sea kayak a month or so ago. Also, I can't believe that any reputable Kayak builder or dealer would expect anyone to buy a sea kayak of this type without offering a demo paddle. This looks to me either like a scam or more likely, someon...

Re: Sea kayak trolleys
One rather useful additional feature of my C-Tug is that it can flipped upside down and placed on the rear hatchback of my estate car, just behind the roofbars. This turns it into a set of rollers which allow me to load my treble SOT or 18ft loaded Sea kayak hull down with ease. Because the load pla...

Re: paddling at shoreham
Thanks Joe I have kayaked at Cuckmere and down to Birling gap a couple of times since getting my sea kayak a few weeks ago - however due to my lack of ability and the 55cm beam of my boat, I make sure the sea is like glass before doing so! It looks like being a bit windy this weekend and so i though...

paddling at shoreham
As I'm new to Sea Kaying, I'm looking for 'safe' enclosed areas to paddle nearby( I live in East Sussex) to use over the winter and can see that Shoreham has a large area of tidal waterway. Is this an OK place to paddle and if so are there any preferred launch sites?

Re: Sea kayak trolleys
I have been using a C-Tug for my big double (treble!) Sit on all summer and it comfortably carries a fully loaded malibu 2 XL plus my two children when they are too lazy to walk! Its real strength is that it builds up and breaks down very quickly and easily- takes me 30 seconds. Just be sure to glue...

"I meekly tugged forelock and pleaded that it was the marina or death. Re: Spraydeck leakage
The boat is not well known over here - a Nimbus Zoom from BC, 17.6ft x 55cm Great for learning in! Still at least it has a rudder till I learn how to steer it without..... I probably didn't tighten the deck as much as I needed to but was worried that the cockpit rim would be too sharp and cut through

Spraydeck leakage
Bought my first spraydeck, a YAK Kyu which is a cheap nylon deck recommended by my local canoe shop as easy to remove in a wet exit. used it for the first time yesterday and was suprised by the amount of water that entered my boat during the session. I was practising bracing, sculling support and a ...

Re: Numb legs/feet
Well, I'm relieved that its a common problem. My seat is a hanging mesh with a foam cushion and feels really confortable - but it could still be cutting off circulation of course. It's got loads of adjustability forward and backwards but no up and down unless I wedge something underneath it. The foo...

Numb legs/feet
I have just started sea kayaking after an enjoyable summer on sit on tops and purchased a pretty cheap and cheerful composite kayak off ebay to get me started. Of all the problems I thought I'd come up against, numb legs wasn't one of them.....but after using the boat twice I simply can't paddle lon...

Re: sit on sea kayak
There is a 20ft(!) expedition sit on on ebay at the moment. It is called a Comanche and looks the business to me. I'll caveat this by saying I know absolutely nothing about the make, the seller or whether this type of kayak is a design cul-de-sac I'm not sure about posting a link to ebay but if you ...

Andy C The full Imray/Tucabo App is called Marine Tides Planner Plus (4.99) and gives tide information for hundreds of ports going forward till Dec 31st 2009. It also incorporates a few tools and I've been using it all summer. It is a great application in my opinion and the best tide app on the phon...

jcox - thats what I'm doing at the moment - I paddled a couple of miles along the coast this morning. I'm sure I'll see you around Joe. I spoke to a chap called Martin (I think) at Cuckmere this morning. I was just coming off the water having paddled my SOT up the meanders and along the coast a bit this morning. There seemed to be a good turnout and people were still arriving. Unfortunately I had ha...

Well - thank you for the intelligent replies. At least my solo paddling is not being dismissed out of hand. I shall certainly take a great deal of care and start off on estuary and tidal rivers like the Cuckmere Haven area and Poole harbour. Thanks for the heads up on Ocean Paddler magazine - it loo...
