Boating in London - UCL

Anyone know of a close-ish club / what will be the likeliest opportunities for boating over the year? Are there any pool sessions running over winter? I'll be studying at UCL for the year - and living somewhere in the centre of London without a car. Opportunities to get in a playboat are welcome!

P&P within 2 hours of Manchester at current levels?

Just trying to gauge the best options for playboating within a couple hours of Manchester at the current levels. Anybody have any suggestions? Is HPP open/shut? Is the Dee on the fun side?

Re: Tryweryn pay and play

This is unfortunate, and whilst I see their point, understand their difficulties, and appreciate the services they provide, it is ultimately counter productive to the sport, and the general public as a whole. If there's one way to reduce participation in anything, it is to remove an excellent and ac...

Kayaking Shops left in North Wales?

It seems some kayaking shops in North Wales closed since I was last here. Are there any left near any park and play of North Wales that will carry a demo line of new playboats?

Re: Creekboats to Canada

There's a MEC in Vancouver. If you were looking at buying a boat new, then selling it at the end, you might do pretty well there - they occasionally do some impressive deals on Pyranha. You're in the West so the second-hand market for creekboats is pretty active which should help too.

'Balance' Webisode 1 featuring new Wavesport Recon

Kelsey Thompson has just released the first episode of a new 9 episode series called 'Balance'. This series follows the life of 3 individuals in kayaking, snowboarding and mountain biking. This one stars Blair Trotman paddling a prototype of the new Recon.

Re: A new Wave Sport creeker?

We had both the Ethos and Recon at Boatwerks (Canada) recently. We got a good look at them, but weren't able to actually get out and paddle them. They looked impressive, and I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on a Recon next season.

Re: Save the WWGP...

Whilst I did really enjoy watching the grand prix, this does seem an excessive expectation. Is tribe related to WWGP? Because it seems to be they could raise some money if they just solved this problem: http://tribealliance.com/products and just made their products that people could actually buy. I'...

How to get hold of a Topo-duo in North America?

Anybody know a distributor in the states? Or even a way of getting one from Europe. This is mainly for the paddling school I am employed at as we are keen to get specifically an Eskimo Topo-Duo for the school/rental fleet. Unfortunately we have been unable to even get in contact with Eskimo kayaks, ...

Re: Kayaking watches?

I was given a Casio HD watch at Christmas. I've worn it everyday since then, on and off the water (playboating almost everyday this summer). It seems to be great value for money, I've been really happy with it, and is advertised as having a 10 year battery life. See here: http://www.watches2u.com/wa...

Re: Recommended Top-decks?

Thanks for the replies - I've got a couple of friends with the IR topdecks, and they seem impressive, if not a little on the pricey side however. Does anyone know if Palm constructs a custom one? And has anyone got anything to say about the Peak UK surfskins/topdecks? The surfskin's I'm particularly...

Recommended Top-decks?

Just looking for some reviews/experiences with various brand's top-decks. I'm looking for something with non-latex seals - for freestyle in warm weather - also the deck should fit on an X-56 - both in K1 and C1 conversion (little bit to ask, but ive been using a rashguard/spraydeck combo on both and...

Difficult play feature - better boater?

Over on the Gull River in Canada - a few of us at AO Boatwerks have wondered whether learning freestyle tricks on a more difficult play feature is a good or a bad thing. From my experience with comparison of UK play features, it seems 'Earl's hole' on the Gull is one of the few solid features for ho...

Re: Kayak Paddles on Planes

Got them over to Canada fine with no hassle. Had a lomo paddle bag (which doesnt say anything about paddles on it, just a fragile handle with care logo), taped and wrapped them in bubble wrap, wrote 'Fragile Skis - handle with care' on a couple of pieces of A4 and taped them to the paddle bag. Turne...

Re: Kayak Paddles on Planes

Thanks for the replies. It doesn't say paddles aren't allowed, however it does stipulate that anything not under the sporting items list must go as checked baggage. The issue is that with checked baggage, the maximum size (length, width, height) must add up to no more than 154cm. My paddles are 196cm ...

I've seen a few threads about boats on planes. However, I've had a change of plans with my upcoming flight and I'm looking to take out my paddles with Canadian Affair, through AirTransat - sporting equipment baggage policy is listed here: http://www.airtransat.co.uk/en/gammes.aspx?langid=en&parentid...

Looking for First Aid Course

Hello,

I'm looking for a first aid course, running either sometime in the next 2 weeks, or at the end of May/sometime in June.

If anybody knows of any running with spaces on during these times I'd be really interested.

Thanks very much,

Ben
