Re: Hey 9R paddlers...

Thanks - yeah I can usd locktite or silicon sealant or whatever. Yes I can tighten them - I generally do on any boat - but thats not the point. Poor product design on the outfitting is the issue. Several other manufacturers have recognized the importance of simple, reliable ourtfitting innovation, ...

Ben, London clubs can be found here: http://canoelondon.com/canoe-clubs-in-london/ If you need suggestions on clubs nearest to you ask away. Alternatively, pop along to the worlds best man made white water course at Lee Valley . You will soon get to know paddle buddies. I am travelling abroad at the...

Re: Pyranha moan

Strange you haven't mentioned the splitting seat though. I am assuming it is a side effect of the nuts coming loose. I don't agree - in my XL Burn I discovered that the seat is simply a bad fit. I bought some polycarbonate sheet, cut it into a number of pieces and drilled holes to make shims to go ...

Re: Pyranha moan

Tim, thank you for your apology. In real terms, even if the screws leave the factory all checked and tightened, they can work their way loose during transit. I think you have missed the point. This was a product defect. Tim has admitted it. Tightening alone doesn't work. We should be proud that our ...

Re: Preparing for Lee Valley Legacy assessment?

Hopefully Giles will be along to give you some informed guidance. In the mean time, here are my thoughts: 1. Do you know why you failed? It might be that you just need to concentrate on one or two things, which could be practiced when on club river trips. 2. Ask a fellow club member take you on the ...

I have just tried to book and it worked fine.

My number is in the 70's.

If you are lower then I guess it could have expired though I have not heard of it before. Maybe they just want forms to be renewed to ensure address/ next of kin etc. details are up to date.

Re: Chilly - in fact really freakin cold!!!!

A while back, I kept putting more layers on but was still getting cold. Like you it developed after an extended period of heavy training. I would start my day uncomfortably toasty. Paddle for awhile and eventually I was deeply cold from the core out (especially if I stopped for a break)- and that wa...

Re: Strange thing happened on pool training!

I've heard of cold water shock disorientating peoples reactions, just wondered if general nervous shock can give a similar result. Some years ago I witnessed a young man "freezing" in the water. He was a nervous swimmer, had put his head under water as he tried to swim and then just lay there, face...

Re: Lee Valley Legacy course's new feature

If there is a standard to be met, then that is the standard so why not just be honest with what the standard is? I think the assessors are honest. As I understand it there are two objectives from one set of tasks. The first objective is to form a judgement on your ability to safely paddle on the Le...

Welcome to London. You will mostly love it, occasionally hate it and rarely be neutral about it. I suggest you find somewhere to live, then find a suitable club within striking distance. Sorry. I have paddled it quite a bit, but it was few years ago so I was hoping somebody with more recent experience would post. I seem to recall one small issue was worn wooden posts from the groynes (spelling?) sticking up in inconvenient places. Just need to watch out for them, not a big deal. The...

"The things that can go wrong here, and often do, are...." This is a statement that I overheard an experienced coach make recently. Guess how many swimmers it generated. I agree - but I reiterate, dealing with the "there and now" is just as important to me as the post-situation reflection and adapta...

You have a pm with some contact details. (Not sure if they are still up to date as it is a while since I used it). These signs claim a right to control navigation that neither the EA nor the Wye and Usk Foundation posess. ... There is no doubt that these signs must be removed immediately and the EA should hold an inquiry as to how the signs were funded and agreed to in the first place. Exactly what he said. Rem...
