Ears

I had very painful ears after rolling, being old school I’m of the opinion that the roll should be regularly practiced. Because nearly every problem in a sea kayak is going to involve water... Therefore I ended up largely stopping kayaking for a number of years. Has anyone successfully made the retu...

Re: Shrike, a lightweight sea kayak for home construction.^

Loving the thread and the builds. Has anyone thus far built a Shrike for a 280 lb load? I am fairly tall, but don’t look tall. I pretty much fill up a standard UK door aperture if you would like a handy comparison and no, I’m not obese on the BMI calculators. I have only the space and attitude for a...

Hi Russ,
South coast, incredibly rare chance of that I'm afraid.
I've hardly been out on my own coast for far too long.

Re: Tall and advice needed!

Take your coffee mug and sit in the boat for at least 30 minutes, longer if you can. The difference between ecstacy and agony can be a few hours and a few milimetres. I've two Xplore X's one I can sit in for eternity, the other is half a day. It's on the for sale pages, but it's too exensive for you...

Re: Almost Sea Kayaking Gear !

I've got a Renault Trafic. Now just over 100,000 miles and still going touch wood. I was lucky enough to get it off its first owner when he traded up to a brand new T5 with his lump sum. So condition is more important than marque in my opinion. I do think a lot of issues are caused by poor maintenan...

May I add my view, Small trailers are a real nuisance to reverse. Proper big trailers are a doddle. The vehicle should be the starting point. Then an appropriate loading system can be found. Should young Mary be lucky enough to be retiring and looking to spend some of that precious lump sum, then it...

As a QLP (Quite large paddler) with limited WWE&S (wood working experience & space) are there any plans to make plans available electronically that I could get laser cut? I would be quite interested in being able to get all the parts cut correctly so as to be able to build it fast because it would p...

Re: Trimming loaded kayak. Opinions sought.

There is a confusion here between theory and actual reality. I'll bet the house that no one here - paddling 'blindfold' or suchlike - could distinguish between a boat loaded one way or another, short of filling one end with ready-mix concrete and the other with helium. Now here's an assumption. But...

Well, I feel I need to say something about a certain sea kayak shop in Oban. Free. A diversion of some ...

Well a chance remark at the 'Greenland Games, Holyhead' had me squeezing half of 6 foot five and 18 stone into it. It's the better halves boat, you see. So it's off the market whilst I have a go at Greenland play. You can always make an obscene offer for consideration, but it's just so pretty and 'r...

Re: Pintail - Ocean Cockpit

Should have mentioned somewhere above, Valley Pintail.
As in, made by Valley Canoe Products, Nottingham, England.
It's a round bilge version of the Anas Acuta, but shares the same dimensions.
Slightly more volume and ideal for the smaller, lighter paddler.
VCP Oval hatch to rear.

42 days on a printer? 23 kg for a GP boat, I think not. But how mad could the wing paddle designers go with 3d printer? I think some really radical 3 d printed wing blades are needed next. And they could be made on this generation of printer. How about a double curve wing? Ok, I'll get my coat and g...

Ocean Cockpit, Red Deck, white hull, black seat & seam, rope skeg, good condition, some minor star cracks. Very little wear to hull, doesn't even warrant a keel strip yet. Only two hatches, no day hatch to keep the weight down. Rear hatch recently Sikaflexed, skeg box recently re-gelled so rope skeg...

Thank you for the replies. To update; Plasticene is indeed resin proof and pretty large quantities can be found at art shops cheaply. Release agent works well on plasticine and you can sculpt pretty sharp edges. I think for deck fitting repairs and such like, it's ideal. Sugru is fun and has provide...
