Re: River Wye - Builth Wells to Boughrood

We were there this weekend in low levels and the right chute down Hell Hole has a nasty looking full sized tree trunk in it lengthways. We only saw it because of a branch sticking up in the last bit of the rapid and on closer inspection saw the entire trunk lying in the chute.Take care. We went down...

Re: Orford Ness

Stony Ditch is where we paddled up and under the remaining bridge to have our sandwiches. We told the coastguard at Orford that was our plan and he said that as it was windy, he'd not recommend it himself and that if we came a cropper, we'd likely be on our own due to the strong possibility of bigge...

Re: Orford Ness

Should add we launched from Orford Pier/slipway much to the amusement of onlookers. You can park in the car park and there's a good tea shop for afterwards and a couple of excellent fish stalls.
Use of the slipway is charged I think for boats but not for kayaks.

Re: Orford Ness

Hi Mark, We paddled around the spit last summer and had no trouble. We paddled up the creek that runs 'within' the Ness itself - getting a better view of the pagodas - but you want to make sure you get the tides right if you're going to do that or you could end up stranded. A brief stop off by the b...

Dagger RPM for sale - London area

Red Dagger RPM, about 3 years old but little used on river trips so in great condition. 2 airbags included. Footpegs rather than full footplate mean that it's easy and quick to adjust. I also made extra foam blocks to fit for wilder water which you're welcome to. Great on surf and highly photogenic ...

Hi Rockhopper, Thanks for the info on Peter which I'll chase up. And yes, part of the reason I love paddling is that you do get access to some amazing places and great sights. I'm sure the mudflats will be full of wildlife. And yes Mark R, I've been fascinated by Orford Ness ever since I saw a late...

Hi Peter, Thanks so much for your incredibly detailed prediction of paddling round Orford. It clearly shows that it would take a lot more planning than I'd imagined particularly given the overfalls and timing. If we were to try it we'd almost certainly go for the portage option to avoid the 20 mile ...

Thanks for your info Tim, In fact, I'm thinking that we probably wouldn't set out to circumnavigate (almost) the Ness but more to explore it a it from just offshore but either way, because of all the meanderings - I think it would be wise to have a chart. Is there one you can recommend? I've spotted...

Thanks for the reply John and yes, the NT fee includes the ferry across so you're right, we'd probably have to pay. As regards the distance we're pretty hardy having paddled all the way up and then down lake Bala in Wales in order to buy day passes (around 10 miles in strong wind) but you're right -...

Orford Ness

Hi all, Always been intrigued by this part of the East Anglian coast. My question, has anyone paddled out and around it? We have 2 general purpose playboats - an RPM and a Redline. My sea kayak pal says they'd probably be fine but we've little experience in the sea apart from a spot of surfing on th...

Guess I'm still looking and still uncomfortable in my own boat :-(

Anyone got one of these they'd like to sell me?

Based in London but travelling to Edinburgh in September so pick up could be negotiable.

Wanted older type US model Dagger RPM

A strange request. I've got a new Dagger RPM, UK serial no, red in colour but I'm really after an older model US serial number boat which I find a lot more comfy. They're the ones with black nose and tail cones and usually in 2 or 3 colours. Here are 2 recent ones from ebay http://i261.photobucket.c...

Hi Dogwalker,

Did you find a red RPM?

I actually have one and in the South East. I'm looking for an older US model of the RPM instead. If I can find one of them then I'm happy to sell mine to you. PM me if you want to make contact.

VW Golf mk 2 roofbars for sale

Roof bars for VW Golf Mk 2 for sale. In the unlikely even that anyone with a car this age who's into paddling hasn't got roof bars yet, I've got a set to sell. Manufactured by Fapa. About 3 years old but now discontinued. They don't feature a conventional key lock but instead fix on with an allen ke...

Dagger GTX wanted South East

Looking for a Dagger GTX.

Would like the white water spec but budget dictates around the £300 mark so we'd have to be very lucky!

London based but we can travel to pick up within reason.

Anyone looking to offload a boat?

Kind regards.

Well, in the end I couldn't find anywhere to try out or even view a 'less aggressive' thigh brace and so, thinking laterally, I decided to modify my own one. Took it out of the RPM and used an iron and a damp tea towel... Imagine my surprise when I put it back in the boat (hideously difficult, invol...

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I'd spoken to Dagger Europe who told me they're doing a 'less aggressive thigh brace" but I'd really have to try it out before going for it. I love the old US brace - feels aggressive enough but doesn't pinch the outside of my thigh!

Many thanks,

Karina T.

US style RPM thigh brace search

Hi all, might seem like a daft question but I've worked out my RPM is a UK model with Legend spec thigh braces. I've been paddling a US model with their style thigh braces (older too) and they're a lot more comfy. The UK ones pinch! Someone suggested I post here on the faintest offchance that anyone...
