Re: VW T6 Roof Rack advice please!
T-tracks (if factory fitted from new) are rated to 150kg. They have additional mounting points on each side, totalling seven per track. As a specified extra at time of order it's £120 which is amazing value and surprising from VW. In the configurator its called something like "Roof load preparation"...

Re: Quantum FSK for sale
Despite much interest it is "still around". Unmarked, ready to go. Needs someone to take it on and do something! So all those Epic18X-ers, Pace17-ites and Taran-ettes look out 'cos the Quantum is coming and like "The Kracken" it will change your thinking.

Re: South Devon Trip Advice
Hi Jack I wouldn't leave a vehicle overnight at Richmond Walk. Try Blagdons boatyard at this time of year (adjacent) which would be more secure but no idea about charges. The advantage of Mountbatten is it's more secure for overnight parking and I believe you may have access to the showers and other...

Re: Tall and advice needed!
Hello BritishStu I'm the dealer for Sea Kayaking UK in Plymouth. Although quite a distance from you (and so unlikely to make a sale I guess, given that you are across on the East coast) I'm happy to give some advice. For your build, there are three models in the NDK/Sea Kayaking UK range that may su...

Re: Nigel Dennis Kayaks and Holyhead Harbour
Donations have now reached a little over 16K. Many thanks to those who have given so far. I'd like to think that anyone who is (or has been) a sponsored paddler will lead the way and help to get the appeal over the bar of 20K. There are 41 sponsored paddlers on the Sea Kayaking UK website who Nigel ...

I actually don't know if Nigel is aware of any of this campaign. He's not one for social media or self promotion. But I will make sure any thoughts expressed in this forum are passed on at the appropriate time.

Nigel Dennis Kayaks and Holyhead Harbour
A little over two weeks ago whilst the so-called "Beast from the East" dominated the headlines, Storm Emma also took it's toll at the same time when it rampaged through Holyhead Harbour and totally destroyed the marina. More than 80 vessels were sunk in just a few hours, including the expedition ves...

I know the Port of Plymouth Canoe Association have a couple of Romany Classics for sale. They will be pre-2009 which has the seat attached to the cockpit rim. I don't know what sort of condition they will be in.

Re: Three piece kayak
This is the advice I would give to any customer taking possession of a brand-new three-piece sea SKUK kayak from me. I believe Rockpool use the same/similar technology as SKUK but some of their models have 5/6 clips per joint. In terms of maintenance - I give them a blast out with the pressure washe...

Hi Douglas
I have to agree with everything you say. It's a fact that they are dangerous but I am obliged to carry them, especially in France. C'est la vie.

Re: Carrying flares
Thumbs-up for the whistle - totally agree. The "hole" analogy was figurative. Picture a very small cove under steep cliffs with little headlands sticking out. So plenty of room to safely fire off a rocket or two. I'd never advocate doing it in a cave! If I was in an enclosed gully the last thing I w...

Re: Carrying flares
I'm putting my hand up to this one. I've reported my original post to the moderator, requesting it's either edited or taken down to avoid potential harm. I certainly don't want anyone to get this sort of thing wrong. I'm very familiar with the use of flares but still typed incorrect advice. This add...

Re: Carrying flares
The usual recommendation for a rocket flare is to fire on your down wind side with the flare pointed slightly down wind so that the exhaust is not blown into your face as it would be if it is upwind of you. I failed to properly check the contents of my post - Thanks to Ken for pointing this out! I ...

Re: Carrying flares
Hi All Just a thought regarding para/rocket flares. It could be your best hope if you've been forced to land (medical/capsized/broken kayak) on a remote beach/gully surrounded by high cliffs. You're in a deep hole. A PLB/VHF or mobile phone may not get a signal out in this situation. They all need "...

Freya Hoffmeister - seriously generous and Thinking Bigger!
I went to listen to Freya Hoffmeister at Weymouth Sailing Academy on Friday evening. Interesting presentation and she is indeed remarkable. However, what she did at the end of the evening deserves the highest recognition - she donated her full profits of the evening event to the RNLI. This was more ...

i suspect that the compass recess isnt deep enough and is causing the expansion membrane to be compressed Simon, you're right on the money with your analysis. Re: Tiderace Moving Bulkhead ?
I'm always surprised that a lot of manufacturers don't offer a choice of bulkhead positions when the boats are being built as, for only a little extra work at that point, it can make a huge difference to a boats usability for kit carrying. Of course you should be able to choose the front bulkhead p...

Also, always worth checking in with the specialist dealers www.britishseakayaks.co.uk in Plymouth, sseak.co.uk in Dorset and karitek.co.uk in Scotland as we sometimes accept trade-ins. As far as I am aware, no official UK dealers sell "factory rejects".
Happy New Year everyone, Rick

Re: Rockpool Taran 18
It is one of a matched pair, originally purchased to set up a sea racing challenge project for paddlers with disabilities.. I'll accept a sensible offer close to the full retail price. 30% off the RRP is not a sensible offer. In fact it's a little bit cheeky, given that I've put my own money into a...
