Re: Shiva crack repair
The insurance company was Snowcard http://www.snowcard.co.uk/ I had a photo of the crack, and a brief report from AS Watersports saying that it would not be suitable for white water use if repaired. I did not rip the arse of the system by claiming that it was a new boat and in good condition. Howeve...

Shiva crack repair
I have a Shiva, which has worn thin and cracked under the seat. The length of the crack is approx 2". Luckily, it cracked in the last couple of days of an Alps trip, so it was covered by my travel insurance who have paid up. I have bought a new boat, but have the old one to do with as I wish. I have...

Re: Similarity between P&H Scorpio and Cetus?
I can now answer my original question having used a Cetus MV demo boat for the weekend. The Cetus is longer than the Scorpio, and has a slightly more "V"ed hull. Initially, I could feel it was a little more twitchy than the Scorpio due to the increased V shape, but not much - it is still very stable...

Re: Typhoon Drysuit warranty
Having ripped the seals on my one year old yellow and black drysuit (not going to run down the company!), I sent it to Rubberman for a new seal to be fitted. The drysuit had always been damp from new and so I asked Rubberman to test the seams etc. They rang me, and said that virtually every seam lea...

Whilst at AS Watersports a couple of days ago, they told me that they have just got a Cetus MV demo boat in, so I will be trying it out at the weekend.

Similarity between P&H Scorpio and Cetus?^
I paddle a P&H Scorpio, which I am very pleased with – I like the fit and handling, but I am thinking of buying a composite boat for longer trips. At a recent demo evening of various boats, I came away thinking that I did not like any of them as much as my Scorpio. However, there was no Cetus there....

Re: RIVER EAST OKEMENT (Upper section to Okehampton)
The "Access hassles" bit on the guide warns that you are on MOD land. Do not let that put you off.I am the Senior Rural Estate Surveyor responsible for Dartmoor Training Area. The land at the head of the East Okement is owned by the Duchy of Cornwall, who licence it for military training. However, t...

Re: Sea kayak advice needed
I paddle a Scorpio, and decided that I might like to change to a glass boat. I attended a demo evening where there were a number of boats available to try back to back, and decided that my favourite one was the P&H Scorpio! That saved me a lot of money. Anyway, in amongst the composite demo boats, t...

Re: Upper Dart – Why is it infamous?
^^ Not hard to get in/out river right, short walk up to a reservoir - river left is an absolute mission though. There is no reservoir on river left! It's on rover right. It's a bitch of a hill at the point at which you are likely to be walking out, but there is a track to the resrvoir. ...just walk...

Re: How I load my kayaks onto car
Now my other colleague's 1968 series 2 lightweight is an interesting car, but he can't afford to keep putting petrol in it. Never mind, looks like a 200 TDI will fit quite easily and he'll still have enough points to stay tax free on an age related plate :-) No - it needs a proper engine - a V8 run...

Re: Those who keep kayaking regardless
Why measure enjoyment by adrenaline rush alone? My extreme paddling may not improve as quickly as it once did, but I am paddling bigger water than I ever expected to to in my early days of fibre glass boats, and avoiding rocks at all costs! Forget Boofs, contact with rocks would mean a leaking boat,...

I'm sure your phone allows you to use capitals. LOL - sarcasm is good! I have never used an Aquapack camera case so don't know how photos will turn out. They have always kept my wallet and other valuables dry despite some hard swims. As for car keys, I have a key which will manually open the boot o...

Re: Lomo Equipment
I have a lomo dry suit which was never really dry. I put it down to sweat and as I had never owned another drysuit, I assumed that was the standard. I lived with being wet for about 18 months until my kneck seal failed. I sent it to Rubberman for repair, and asked him to pressure test it as well as ...

It also concerned me that they only got 114 responses - but then again not much shocks me when paddlers are involved - I got the same response with no mention of water access at all, its a shame that some of us made an effort but were not supported. Exactly, paddler apathy is a terrible thing. Padd...

Re: Tennis elbow
I like the ratio of 4 years paddling to one days gardening - it sounds about right!
I have just bought a purpose made tennis elbow strap, and have worn it for a couple of days. Overnight last night, I got the first night's sleep without pain from my elbow waking me since Xmas, so maybe there is hope.

How much weight can an Mi Slalom kayak take?
I have been offered a Mi Slalom kayak (without any other details) and would be interested in knowing whether it will cope with a larger paddler of about 13 stones. I have no idea of the spec, but googing "MI slalom kayak" comes up with a few mentions of an Mi 370 so it might be one of those. Has any...

Sharpen, I've been through all this, you can't paddle through it, it needs rest. I am giving it some rest for 6 weeks or so, and then hope to build up paddling again. Sea Kayak Outfitting
When I paddle my Pyranha White Water boat, the outfitting is superb and it fits like a glove. Close fitting hip pads grip me so that rolling is not too much of a problem. HOWEVER, I have a P&H Scorpio sea kayak, and, although very comfortable, it feels a bit sloppy compared to my white water boat. I...

No significant rain here in Okehampton. It is above freezing though and an inch or so of snow has melted today.
I am only at 190 metres above sea level though, so do not know what is happening higher up on the moor.

Salisbury Canoe Club do quite a few white water trips, pool sessions etc. In the summer, they meet every Tuesday for a local paddle. I was a member until I moved down to Devon earlier this year. Teign access should not be a problem.
I was at a meeting on Dartmoor recently when a National Trust representitive stated that they did not object to use of the Teign by kayaks / canoes. It fits in with their change of emphesis to promoting an activite lifestyle on their estate.
