Re: Drybags

I don't know why they don't make them all with rubber seals. Try a watershed. Not only are the seals rubber, but they are like a massive meaty zip-lock. No precision rolling required at all. Like I say, I love my Watershed bag for camera gear, but I think they're overkill for most stuff Especially ...

Re: Drybags

I've had a mix over the years: - My camera gear goes in a Watershed bag, and it's been great, though a friend has had an issue with one. - The best general dry bag I've had is a SealLine Baja bag,had it since 2000 and it's still going strong. - The new Ortlieb bags are nicely built, a bit more flexi...

Re: RIVER LEVEN

Paddled the Leven at the weekend on a nice top-end-of-medium level. There were a couple of tree hazards of sorts (can't access the FB link above so not sure if any of these are the same one reported earlier): - A large bough or small tree stuck in the bottom left of the Brick Chute weir, fine if you...

Re: Does fear affect your paddling ability?

For me the distinction is straightforward - nerves you can overcome, fear you can't. Fear is when your body seems to turn to jelly and you lose control of your movements. ... I don't think fear is ever motivational. If it is, then it's not fear but just nervousness. Hmm, I was going to say that fea...

Re: Does fear affect your paddling ability?

Filled in the survey, but you need to define 'fear' I think! There's a sliding scale of fear/nervousness/apprehension for most people, I suspect. Wherever you are on the beginner-inter-advanced ladder, at some levels that fear can be motivational, at some levels it can be detrimental. Feeling nervou...

Re: Splits - If not why not?

Still carry an old Lendal 4-piece when in my creek boat. Don't in my river runner (GTX) because I'm close to the top end of the weight limit and it starts handling squirrely if I'm loaded with extra kit.

Look up Dam Watersports. Custom cut, not overly expensive, and a thicker cut of fabric, might be what you need.

Re: Mind games (by proxy!)

That's a very fair point, Dave, although I don't think you'll change the name of the rapid on the Orchy for love nor money. I don't necessarily agree that "taking the easiest, safest route down a river/feature should be the norm... ", but the line should be appropriate to the paddler. I, when feelin...

FS: Valley Prodigy for sale

I bought Mozz_uk's Prodigy (still advertised below) a couple of years ago, but having lost a bit of weight I'm now too light for it. Selling for £100 including a Peak deck. I've re-outfitted the boat, putting a new back block, foot block, hip padding and seat pad in, plus built a new suicide block f...

Re: Mind games (by proxy!)

Many thanks for playing chaps, good thinking. I don't think there's any right or wrong answers, and I guess you're right that it's largely about creating a space and environment for the 'affected paddler' to have a good day and help themselves. Dave, your comment on 'pressure to paddle' resonates a ...

What about a GTS or GT? Should be able to pick one up cheap-ish online, would be a fairly logical follow on, a river runner rather than going for a small creek boat like the Veloc.

We picked up a set of paddles from the car park in Llangollen, left in the corner by the benches yesterday (1st May). FS: Downtime Shred - needs repairs

Selling my Shred off, cheap. It's a purple/blue/black 'mackerel skin' Downtime Shred, seemed to work well for me at about 13.5 stone-ish. Being honest, it needs a fair amount of work. I was working on it as a project but have now moved house and don't have the time or the garage space to finish it o...

Re: Advice on big boy boats?

Was this new thinking after the Tees at the weekend, lad? ;) If you're going for a bigger volume boat, the split more-or-less comes down to planing or displacement hull, and most of that comes down to preference. Like Dave above, I've never really got on with planing hull boats like the Burn or Mamb...
