Polo training Chippenham (Wilts)

Hi, I moved to Chippenham(Wiltshire) a while ago. Was wondering if there are people locally that would be interested in polo fitness training on the Avon in Chippenham. Aerobic sessions, sprint sessions, ball skills etc. I play for Avon polo club but could do with some extra training more local than...

Chippenham whitewater paddlers and/or polo fitness sessions

Hi, I moved to Chippenham(Wiltshire) a while ago. Was wondering if there are people locally that would be interested in: -Whitewater paddling occasionally? I've paddled a fair bit, need to get out on the water more. Would be looking at grade 4 +/- a bit, but I'd also be happy to coach on easier trip...

Re: "I thought I was immortal"

Good article. I had a brilliant time canoeing at university, learning to paddle and trying harder rapids pretty quickly without any real mishaps. We went to the French alps, then Austrian Alps then Norway for the first time and although I have always been fairly sensible, I didn't have any experienc...

Re: South East Canoe Polo League

I received the e-mail below from a mailing list, can't remember how I signed up to it. Try contacting: Dave Plowman, email: national-leagues-organiser@canoepolo.org.uk. For current results, check www.canoepololeagues.co.uk. Some divisions are missing because no one seems to know who has the results ...

Re: Canoe polo national league results website

Cheers,

I've updated things accordingly. Do Letchworth still play in div. 3 South and if so do you have a copy of the league table you could send me?

Re: Pyranees maps

It looks like they've changed the numbering of maps. If anyone is interested, the maps covering central Pyranees seem to be: TOP 100: 173 St Gaudens / Andorre TOP 100: 167 Pau / Tarbes and the canoeing and kayaking map of France is: 905: Canoeing and Kayaking I've just ordered them from www.mapsworl...

This kind of thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvLttW84b_E and the exercise at 2:35ish here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=E2jxvQ-xdQE are things I've found useful for powerful turning, pulling the boat round with the knees using the core. I also think front, side and bent over shoulder raises ...

Re: What did you do this weekend?

Well I might as well join in as well. We had a look at the Plym and Erme on Saturday to find them a bit low, then had a couple of runs on the Upper Dart, the second of which was brilliant, what with the extra water. Then the East Lyn from Watersmeet to the sea on Sunday, such a nice place to finish,...

Blue Liquid Logic Hoss - Left on an island in the Upper Dart

Hello, My group rescued a blue Liquid Logic Hoss which we saw floating down Pandora's Box without a paddler. I left it on an island further down next to a knackered Ammo which had been left there by another group for collection (cheers for finding the paddles from one of our group!). Did you find it...

Hi Nigel,

I'm about to send the bits off to start becoming a 4* assessor, would I be any use once I've got the training days done?

When I'm an assessor I'd be happy to help.

A group of us are heading out on 24th June. I think we're still six people in two cars, so should have space for a couple of boats but I'll have to check.

Re: Advice with bivy bags

One thing to seriouly consider is a mozi net on your bivi bag - sleeping next to rivers often means biting bugs. I've found on several occasions that being able to seal yourself in when in bug infested jungle is a real bonus! I definately agree with this. I woke up in Norway looking like Rocky Balb...

Sorry to hear you had some trouble. I don't think there is an answer as to whether you were trespassing or not, there are plenty of discussions on this site about river access. I carry on regardless and just try to keep my impact on the land to a minimum. I've never met the guy before. I haven't kay...

I've got on at Offchurch before at around grid reference SP358662. I parked my car in a bit of a lay-by near the bridge. I get fabrics and resins from:

http://www.cfsnet.co.uk/

by mail order. They're in Cornwall, so not very north-west!

I haven't found anywhere else. If you know of any local composite boat manufacturers, they might be able to supply with materials.
