Re: SWSK3
Hi Mark Thank you for writing all your books, they are an interesting read as well as being really useful. I have read the chapters of SWSK2 for locations that I paddle regularly. My comments are: P56 The grid ref for Freshwater Beach Hol Park is the wrong way round: it should be 479 898. P65 Budlei...

Re: Severn Estuary
I like this trip. I strongly recommend that it is done on big springs, and you do need experienced paddlers. For a group that paddles at say 6kph you will regularly travel at 15kph, and sometimes at 21kph as you go through the bridges. I have done both directions several times. Clevedon to Sharpness...

Interesting little film about a man who camped on Darnet island for 45 days. It's worth watching when you have a quiet evening.

Re: Club membership management systems
Just to let you know Webcollect has provided a new report to make life easier for Treasurers. It is called a gocardless report and provides payment information for a date range, and then shows the orders that have been placed to match with the money that is received. Go to the Admin page and look lo...

Sea kayak trips with shuttles by public transport
I know of a few. Have you any more suggestions? • Brixham to Kingswear. Shuttle by Stagecoach bus number 18 • Plymouth: Calstock to Tamar Bridge East side. Shuttle by train from St Budeaux to Calstock. This shuttle is easier than the drive. • Plymouth: Lynher river from Notter Bridge to Saltash. Shu...

Re: PADDLING TO BE BANNED ON THE RIVER EXE ESTUARY
Thank you to everyone for the information and advice. BC nationally and locally are being very helpful and there is a strong campaign now trying to obtain information and examine the issues in detail. Reply to Franky. Good question and one that we have asked as well. Whilst we are told that the zone...

Re: PADDLING TO BE BANNED ON THE RIVER EXE ESTUARY
Hi Nigel Yes it is me. It was good trip to Cardiff that day and one of the more interesting paddles that I have done. Not sure I paddled that fast. I have paddled on the Severn estuary a few times since, particularly around the bridges and from Sharpness to Clevedon. The estuary is a beautiful place...

Re: PADDLING TO BE BANNED ON THE RIVER EXE ESTUARY
Thank you for the replies. I will look at those sites and see what habitat mitigation is happening there. The proposals are for 2 zones initially, but the project proposal shows that the intention is to affect more of the estuary. The area that will be available for paddling is the channel which oft...

PADDLING TO BE BANNED ON THE RIVER EXE ESTUARY
Sadly I am not joking. The three local councils adjacent to the estuary are planning to introduce two voluntary exclusion zones on the Exe Estuary, one between Lympstone and Exmouth and the other at Dawlish Warren. Both zones will have a big impact on all watersports activities including paddling, s...

Barclays and Lloyds provide dual signatory facilities for online payments for clubs. Lloyds set up is by telephone and a nightmare. Barclays is ok as you can do it in branch. We are not paying any bank charges. One tip for trying to protect your club bank accounts from fraud. Have 2 bank accounts. O...

Re: River Teign - A382 Bridge to Steps Bridge
Message from one of our club members. Between Dogmarsh Bridge and the salmon leap weir on the River Teign is a ruined metal bridge which tends to catch trees. I walked past there today and noticed another tree has become wedged under the bridge. At the moment the river is surprisingly low, but if th...

If you are coming to Exeter drop in on Exeter CC at the same time as our taller club paddlers have boats that might suit you and which you could probably try for a quick paddle.
Tuesdays at 6pm would be a good time to come along for this.

When asking whether the BCU might look into the number of rescues, one committee which might do so is the Sea Touring Committee. But then we find that it appears not to have any elections, published minutes etc. Perhaps we need to push the BCU / CE into getting its committees in order so that they d...
