Re: Dry Suits - Sea Paddling

Check out the Artistic Perino and North Cape drysuits. They will become more common in the UK, now that Lyon Equipment is distributing them... I am getting a Perino very soon - and I'm quite excited to try it out!

I've got Zegul Arrow Play MV in plastic and Play HV in composite boats, if anyone wants to demo these on Anglesey. They are very cool to use in tideraces!!

Re: Should a 4* Leader be a 5* Follower?

"Effective leader" and "effective follower" are just two sides of the same coin. An effective leader is one that develops their followers to be capable leaders themselves. So if the "effective leader" gets hit by a bus, it's no big deal and a replacement steps up - an "effective follower". How's thi...

Re: Should a 4* Leader be a 5* Follower?

I have a question and some opinions... How do you "effectively follow"? 1) Shared knowledge/communication - knowledge of what's going on in the enterprise is very important and enfranchises the team... Without this perhaps, at best, "sheep" and "yes people" followership emerges. Knowledge can be sha...

Re: Tall and advice needed!

I'm 6 foot 5 (36 inch inside legs, size 48 feet) and have enjoyed paddling a Romany Surf, Explorer HV, P&H Delphin 155, P&H Scorpio MV. I replaced the big bulky plastic foot pegs in the P&H boats with smaller Yakima foot pegs. Second hand P&H plastic boats would easily fit into your price range. P.S...

Re: British Canoeing Sea Kayak Coach

I'm not part of the system. I just took a look, out of curiosity, and quickly got confused. If this is the 'streamlined and simplified' version, I dread to imagine what the current scheme looks like. Hi Mark, yes the pre-2018 current system was very complicated and not particularly good for experie...

Re: British Canoeing Sea Kayak Coach

Hi Mark, Under the new system, assuming you are a 5* leader, you may be endorsed as an Advanced Sea Kayak Coach after just 5 days on courses. Under the old system a 5* leader would have to do: 6 days for UKCC Level 1 including FSRT and 2* in canoe/kayak, followed by 5 days of UKCC Level 2, followed ...

Re: How difficult is kayaking with a sail?

Just a thought, for the Almanac or something, could a list of organisations providing sea kayak sailing demo and courses opportunities be compiled. It could be useful and of interest to a great many ukriversguidebook users. It is always nice to try before you buy different kit. Scotland http://www.k...

Re: Greenland Style Rolling Awards - some potential or bad i

I'm liking the enthusiasm here for badges! For you kayak sailors, surely you could also get your stripes from the RYA? And for Greenland rolling - if BCU is the wrong place for your badge, why not try PADI and call it Sub Aqua Greenland Paddling! Of more importance is the title of our badges. The st...

Re: Greenland Style Rolling Awards - some potential or bad i

HI Greenlandpaddler, Well done on producing this syllabus! I can't see much wrong with it. It seems similar to the 3* Freestyle and 3* Wildwater Racing ideas, i.e. competitive branches of recreational paddling. If you're into freestyle, wild water racing or Greenland rolling and want a BCU proficien...
