Re: Conwy Hydro Scheme

All paddlers need to get involved, especially those from afar. The more the better. Tom is correct, if this goes through any river could be next, Swale, Dart, etc, etc, etc.

McMurdo Fastfind 220 is small, waterproof (to I think 10m) no subscription. Gets good reviews & comes in at £190 if you look carefully enough.

Sea kayakers at St Kilda, ~5->11july

I was there diving, very lucky with the weather.
The sea-kayaking team seemed to have a great time, a circumnavigation of Hirta & trip over to Boreray.

RIVER CLYDE: City Centre to the Sea

As of May 2014..... Kayaking (hopefully temporarily) banned on the Clyde in Glasgow Clydeport, the Harbour Masters for the Clyde in Glasgow, have been taken over by Peel Holdings who are taking a much more strict line with regard to paddling on the Clyde in Glasgow. The SCA are in negotiation with t...

I am thinking of buying the fastfind220 for diving (& mountain/mountain biking days alone - often end up a long way from civilisation!). I know it has GPS for quicker location, the price is good-ish at 189, but what do people think of it? Are there any good alternatives that I should consider?

Re: Glasgow Whitewater Course - Pinkston Watersports

**I do not know the categorical answer, but do know a fair bit about Pinkston & planning has gone into this** Water is clean, I believe that the basin (flat water) is slightly raised from the canal so that water flow goes out of the clean basin into the canal. I think that the course is pumped from ...

Yes, the SCA run WtW.
SEPA (a government organisation) publish river levels from their gauges, the SCA use that data for WtW.
SEPA survey has been long term, the SCA one is December 2013.

Re: Changes to Level 2 from 1st January

I agree with much of what SimonW has said, the awards don't seen to be moving as far forward as recreational paddlers want. However (& I may be very wrong here)", were there not multiple complaints of having to cover two disciplines (canoe & kayak), coaching responds & produces two separate courses ...

More than fair enough. I think what has happened is that this has been the position (rightly, wrongly or ambiguously) since the last major Mem-Arts review in 2009. No one since then has brought it up, thus this is the accepted norm. It is English so notoriously ambiguous & unreliable!! Anyway, havin...
