Re: Fast exped kayak. Kayman Raider
You could try this for a new breed of fast touring sea kayak, fully kitted out with everything you can think of ( go on ask away) Set up for sailing and all you have to do is add the mast step the rest is there, no nuts and bolts for deck fittings recessd rudder etc etc 5.5 mtrs in length and 52 cm ...

Re: Fishing from a sea kayak
Might not be the same fish but here in OZ I use an old flip flop (We call them thongs) and I wrap 30 mtrs of blind cord or just some fishing line (but that gets tangled easily )this onto the thong with the last 5 mtrs is 10/15 lb fishing line and for a lure I use 10/15mm of a McDonalds straw and the...

Re: Ethics in sea kayaking.
its a good question ethics in sea kayaking and the use of aids. As a good friend of the late Andrew MCauley who being a "ethical" climber used a sail when he first got into sea kayaking but stopped using them as an ethic when he started pushing out his bigger trips. He once used a trip along the Wes...

Re: kayak sails^
Yes its a whole different dimension to sea kayaking and a fun one at that ( I'm convinced as I use one from time to time) but the down side is that you get so hooked going sailing that many "sailors" forget to go paddling and when the headwinds kick in in......well they turn around and go sailing. M...

Re: Leaking Hatch: retrofit with bolts/rivits?
If your wanting to keep the cleaning time down use a little PVA applied around the outside area where you want to clean up ,let it dry and then do your messy work, let it dry then when your ready just use your finger and it will all come off ...easily

Re: Keel strip patch-up
I've done several keel strips in the past few years, but the one I did last month for a pal ended up slightly rippled, as if standing waves were across the strip for the whole length every couple of inches. This was apparent as soon as I put the 50mm tape onto the resined hull, and no amount of bru...

I was a member of the Antarctic trip on as seen on TITS 3 and yes we used a quality solar panel to charge our main battery and then ran an inverter off the battery so we could charge different items from a small laptop to our SATphone and our personnel cameras etc It was a good system but bloody hea...

Re: Rudders...WHY????
I have paddled a few times in big seas and big winds 40/50 knots and 5/ to 7 mtr swell/seas in ruddered and skegged boats and when its that rough and that windy I believe a rudder wins hands down as you dont feel like edging and sweep stroking to correct course In these conditions you need full skeg...

Re: Rudders...WHY????
Gages Very informative info.No bait intended for you or a boat comparison but how does a Mirage type rudder shape up in comparison to a trailing type? I have never paddled a skegged kayak but have often paddled with trailing rudders up and noticed a positive difference but I cannot notice a differe...

Re: Rudders...WHY????
What about water resistance? We have proved several times that having the skeg down is definitely slower in calm conditions. I would guess that a rudder might have an even greater effect. Has anyone made this comparison? Having a skeg down is definately slower than a trailing rudder and surprisingl...

Re: Protecting inside of composite hull from foot wear?
I have seen this happen heaps from paddlers in this area,if any thing its a good thing as it probably shows some leg work with your heels I use flow coat to protect all the inside area of the cockpit from UV as well as all that in and out you do and when that wears it's just a bit more flowcoat not ...

Wouldnt be without a deck net on my deck I glass in loops of spectra and run shock cord around and through the netting and loops, making sure the netting isnt too saggy as gear will fall to one side and get in the way One of the best spots and way better than deck bags http://nadgeekayaks.com.au/inde...

its just as easy as a small hole but be sure to keep the hole round by fast long sanding motions ,not little ones where you can lose the round

Hi Guys
I'm a builder of a popular sea kayak here in OZ and am looking at expanding my business without going overboard
Does any one know of importers over there who may be interested in bringing in sea kayaks ?
Thanks in advance

HI I build a kayak here in OZ that comes standard with a bulkhead that is tailored made for a foot pump and fitted to the customers leg length, yes it doesn't allow anyone else room to paddle (unless of course they have the same leg length) but it does provide more room in the front cockpit and reduc...
