Re: Public access to land and waterways time for change
You think it's a good idea to be asking a government made up of landowners when their MPs and the party are majorly sponsored by landowners, is going to look favourably on changing access rights allowing paddlers more rights to paddle on what they believe is THEIR private land while they are present...

Re: RIVER TEES (Barnard Castle to Whorlton Falls) - Abby Rapids
IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT ABBEY RAPIDS Paddlers, please be aware there is currently a tree across Abbey Rapids preventing paddling. We have made contact with the Mortham Estate who maintain the area and will update once the tree has been removed. For now, please do not use the rapids. Please share wit...

Re: Confused by Rainchsers gauges - Yorkshire, NE
Different rivers take different amounts of time to rise and fall, and some need more water to rise when it's raining than others. I believe the 'flashiest' river in the country is the Swale (it used to be the Tees before Cow Green reservoir was built), so it tends to rise and fall very quickly. You ...

Re: North east England partner need (new to sport)
You don't say exactly where you are in the North East. The best way to learn is to join a club, of which there are many in the NE. Your best bet would be to try posting on the "North East Kayak Club" (not a club in the proper sense, just a bunch of paddlers in a Facebook group). As for actual clubs ...

Paddled the section from Grosmont to Ruswarp yesterday at fantastic levels. When we got to the area just above the weir and we got out, someone attached to the boat rental (about 100m below where we got out) approached us and enquired about where we'd got in, and whether it was above Sleights weir. ...

Replacement backrest for Dagger Honcho
The backrest on my Honcho isn't as comfortable as it could be, and it has very limited adjustment, usually slipping back to the original position pretty soon after I put any weight on it. So I am wanting to replace it with something more like the ratchet adjustable backrest in my Burn 2 (connect). I...

Re: SWALE (Catterick to Ure Confluence)
Paddled the section from Catterick Bridge to Great Langton (6 miles, exit river left immediately below the first bridge you come to) last week. There are quite a few trees down in the river, but all were navigable in the levels we had, although may cause problems in faster flows. Park at the overflo...

How Long Do You Spend On The Water?
Further to the thread on exactly how much it costs to go paddling, I thought I'd ask: How long, as a percentage, do you actually spend on the water when you go paddling? We liked to think we spend a long time paddling, but in reality we have to spend time sorting and packing our kit, putting the boa...

A few years ago my wife and I were on the way back from a diving holiday and were trying to get on an earlier connecting flight. We were about to go through to join the group of others waiting to be the lucky ones to be picked when we were asked if we had any dangerous objects in our bags. We said w...

Re: Jackson Sweetcheeks repair help?
I had this same problem last month (although mine hasn't come off completely), so I contacted Jackson Kayaks who said I should use Aquaseal. I intend to use some neoprene cement called Aquasure as I haven't got round to doing it yet as I'm going to add more polystyrene beads to it first.

Re: WARNING - dangerous local Briancon Gorge on Durance
I was actually thinking of getting some water soluble paint to write my name over large rocks by the side of lots of rivers. What harm can it do? It might spoil a few photographs for a while, but after all it'll just wash off after a few heavy rains, or if the river floods a bit. I don't see what an...

You could apply to the Land Registry to find out who owns the land, but it will cost you £30 I think.

Re: Barrier across the Dee
Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of rubbish or bulky items on land not licensed to receive it, so someone can be prosecuted for flytipping on their own land. Since it is highly unlikely that the landowner was issued with a license, can I suggest that you contact the relevant council who should at ...

If I had to guess, I'd say he was intending passing the rock he hit on his left (viewer's right) and then head river right taking him just left of the boney bit and over the brown water section over the final drop. I'd also guess that he would never have been able to stick to that line, ending up at...

Re: Petition to make waterways right of way.
I think it is the wrong time to be doing this, mainly because too many members of the present government are some of the landowners along water courses, or are too entangled/mates with others who are. If Corbyn gets into power I have no doubt that he would have a more sympathetic ear to the cause. C...

Re: Angling Trust & British Canoeing in Court Soon?
I had a quick look, and for a search that is just for an area of land on a map it costs £30. I'm considering using the argument "it's Ok, I own the land" so when they say "no you don't" I can tell them that I don't believe they do either until they prove it! I may also consider using the Stephen Fry...

Am I correct in remembering that during the Kinder Trespass a technicality was used in that you can walk side by side along a Public Footpath/RoW, and that it doesn't actually state a maximum limit walking side by side? A group of 16 could walk side by side and it is still considered everyone is on ...
