Re: Hefty Swim
Some options: a) re-enter and roll out back, paddle back through surf zone in swamped boat. b) in surf zone: re-flip and bodyboard back in on the back deck (lift the front end of boat and flip over to empty most of water out, your own buoyancy should allow you to get it mostly empty - like a 1 man c...

Re: FSRT SIGNATURES NEEDED
Remember not just any FSRT provider can sign you off. Now you need an FSRT provider who has paid the BCU to go on a moderation course so that they can sign that logbook for you!?! Yes, seriously.

Surf 3 Star Training / Assessment courses
I am on a quest to get my mod water & 3 star provider boxes ticked in both Surf & Sea, so am on the look out for courses to observe / shadow. There is only one 3 Star Surf course registered on the BCU website for 2015, but training courses dont need registration. If anyone knows of any opportunities...

Re: BCU MWE changes
Response from the BCU: "In answer to your question, as a MWE trainee you will be covered as long as you are working alongside a coach who is qualified to work in that environment." So fine for disciplines where coaches are 10 a penny like WW, but probably the final nail in the coffin of the BCU surf...

Re: BCU MWE changes
I would presume that you would be insured to coach in the MWE environment as a MWE 'trainee' under the BCU insurance. My question to the BCU would be, 'am I insured to work in the appropriate award environment as an award trainee?` Exactly. And the response from the English Coaching Manager at the ...

BCU MWE changes
I received an email from the BCU recently explaining changes to the MWE system: From Jan 2015 following a MWE training course you must log "A minimum of 15 quality coaching sessions delivered in the specific moderate water environment after Moderate Water Endorsement Training" before then going for ...

Well that boat is for sale in the surf section at the moment so you could post and ask the seller. He calls it a suicide block.

That document is 2 years out of date. I am surprised I haven't seen any threads about this years changes to the coaching scheme yet, maybe it has slipped under the radar: http://www.canoe-england.org.uk/tests-i-awards/coaching-qualifications-courses/bcu-i-ukcc-level-2/ We can now be a L2 kayak coach...

Re: Secret Society Canoe Clubs
It seems that in the region I have moved to the norm is for clubs to either not organise programmes in advance (keep this weekend free in Jan so we can go to the Dart... Bear in mind this sport is water dependant, how can you plan a trip two months or more in advance when there might be a winter lo...

Re: kayak instructors
That would depend entirely on the agreement you had with that person when you employed them. The specific role of a coach is to provide coaching. As for responsibilities: coming back with the same number of 15 year olds you went out with is always good. More info required.

Re: fins?
Currently using cjbs on my ski - no complaints, just want to try some smaller, also they are a bit battered. Not tried them on my boat though so can't compare them with mega fins - I think I did try at one time and they didnt quite fit the fin boxes.

Re: Secret Society Canoe Clubs
How can it really be too much trouble for a perspective member to want to know what sort of trips a club goes on and how often, and to know that they are organised far enough in advance to arrange work around the trips? He's not really asking clubs to change what they do or anything, he's just aski...

Hi SDG You seem to have got the situation back to front, clubs are not a business its folk who put some time into supporting others to learn the skills and create a safe structure to work in. They dont owe you anything, and if they are not what you want, walk away. Or you could start an informal pa...
