Head all the way up the hill to the barrage (feels like a long way...) then get on somewhere near the next bridge upstream, where the marker on that map is.

Other options may go too! I believe that's the standard section anyway.

There's a river wide tree just below the top drop on the falls, looks like very bad news at about 1.2 on the SEPA gauge.

I think I've probably given my two-penneth here, but it's interesting to see people's comments. In fact it wasn't the Wye, it was the Cam. Mr. Wildswimmer Pete, as a mid-twenty something who refuses to have a mobile phone, I accept your critique of my generation entirely, but in this case the passi...

I'm 6'5 (although more like 80-85kg) and manage it fine in one of the older Jackson Allstars (2008?).

Pretty much zero - http://www.mwronline.net/mrc/default.aspx. You'd need at least 30 cumecs for 1 gate.

I have stories about eatheopian air that would make your hair curl. They are a complete gong show. I've flown with them a number of times, they take boats no worries, in fact they accept 40kg of luggage but there is a minimal chance of it actually arriving, or you for that matter, and once your the...

Re: Getting to the Zambezi

Best I've found so far is Ethiopian from Heathrow to Lusaka, or Emirates to Joberg then South African to Lusaka.

Has anyone had any experience of Ethiopian? Any problems with boats?

Cheers. Any recommendation on airlines though? SAA is a bit too expensive (about £300).

Getting to the Zambezi

I'm after some advice about a cheap(ish) way to get to the Zambezi in August.

From what I've found so far, it looks best to go via Joberg (Emirates for £480), but I'm struggling to find a cheap way to get to Livingstone from there.

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Cheers,
Phil

Re: What DSLR lens size for boating pics

I took my (canon) kit lens and the sigma 70-300 - this really isn't that bad as long as you get the APO version. It's certainly better than my kit lens, and only gets really soft from 200mm onwards. If I was going again, I'd take a 85mm f/1.8 - this is pretty much the perfect length for Nile special...

Coming to Uganda soon?

I need a lens bringing out to Uganda in the next three weeks. Weight is about 500g, so boxed will be less than 1kg. If you're heading out soon and have space for it, give me a PM. Payment will be in beer, photos and appreciation.

Pentax Optio W30, Gorillapod, SD Cards

For sale - optio w30. About a year old. Plenty of scuffs/scrapes on the body (none on the lens), but still works fine and still waterproof!

£90 ono

I have a gorillapod and 3 8GB SD cards that I can throw in (or sell separately) for £10 each.

Peli Case for 350D

What size Peli case will I need for a Canon 350D with the standard EF-S 18-55mm lens?

Would ideally like to get it in the back of a M burn, and somewhere in an Allstar.

Who's going to Uganda this summer?

I'll be out there (for the second time) with a couple of mates from 9th July to 7th August. They're off on a course for a week, and are back in the UK a week earlier, so I'll probably be looking for some people to paddle with.

Would be good to know who's going to be around.

Try a new ('07 onwards) allstar. They've got loads of room - I'm 6'5 and fit (uncomfortably) with the seat forward of centre.

What get-out are people using for this section now?

We paddled it yesterday and there was considerably more barbed wire around than last time we did it. We ended up getting out on river right where the small trib comes in.
