Re: Lee Valley
Even the legacy course isn't "easy", it's continuous, it's narrow, it's hard to navigate around boats if they are side-surfing. The bottom section is pretty tricky, I've taken novices down and they've really really struggled, it's not something you can just bash through with no skill. I worked at LV...

Re: Upper Thames
There is a fair bit of flow in the Thames at the moment so you'd probably do 18 miles a day easily.

Re: Hey 9R paddlers...
It makes all other boats feel slow and un-boofy..... Switching to a Habitat 80 felt horrible!
Outfitting is still Pyranha... Wavesport still have way better outfitting.
9RL has a silly location for rear grab handle and bung.

Re: Artificial courses
I think the number of Man-made courses increasing is a good thing. Paddling at Lee Valley, it's healthy for our sport to offer good conditions year-round. The next generation of paddlers will be able to hone their skills so much by having the benefit of repeatedly practicing the same section of wate...

Man vs Hell - Charity Challenge - 24 hours of kayaking + 300miles on a bike!
https://vimeo.com/156401169 From Paddle Power to Pedal Power. 24 hours of white-water kayaking followed by a 300 mile cycle home! Richard Brooks completed his Man Vs Hell Charity Challenge yesterday (Sunday 21st February) in 53 hours 20 minutes. Successfully navigating his kayak down the upper secti...

Re: Grand Canyon advice
Thanks once again Jim. Just the info I was after. did your guys have any luck? It'd be nice to supplement the diet with a bit of fresh fish if possible. One thing you don't have to worry about on a Grand Canyon trip is the food! That is if you go with Ceiba or PRO, we did the BBQ extravaganza with ...

Get yourself to any of the major kayaking events, NSR, Moriston River Race, gene17 events, and set up a stand and you'll have dozens of people to test.

Re: KLM to take kayaks?
300cm combined l+w+h is the size of a medium/large playboat wrapped in a dust-sheet, my Carbon Superstar is slightly over this but it's hard to measure. I've flown with Air Canada with my boat by trying to blag it as a large item, thankfully the clueless staff member put it through as a surfboard in...

Chasing Niagara
Got to see Chasing Niagara at the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival last week, one of the best made kayaking films and actually has a narrative story. There is some deeply upsetting GoPro footage of Gerd's near-drowning which may be slightly traumatic for younger paddlers. It won the Best Mounta...

Tree Falls On Raft - Terrifying...
From Facebook.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhGGfFuE3T4 No shit, there we were .... rafting the Pacuare River ... on our honeymoon ... as a small rain storm began, not unusual for the jungle in Costa Rica. As we floated between rapids in a flatwater section, we began to hear "crack, crack, cra...

Ossian / Ghuilbinn Hydro Schemes
I spent the weekend camping up near Corrour Station and there's a huge amount of scarring on the landscape from new 4x4 tracks to allow trucks to get up to build Hydro Schemes. It's possible to walk from Corrour to Rannoch without getting your feet wet now! I only saw one of the dams but it looked p...

Re: Lee Valley Feature Names?
There is also Revolver which is the feature with the eddy on river right above main event. There used to be a particularly nasty set of omnifloats positioned on the corner just above the bridge that would catch out many of the raft guides, often flipping the rafts on their first runs sending panicki...

Buy an inflatible handi-rack. After a couple of trips it's paid for itself in lack of hassle.
Oh and get the damage waiver so you don't get done for scratching the roof.

Re: Californication
I was in California 2 weeks ago for work, and we were ironically shooting kayakers in the background for a car campaign, we struggled to find anywhere with interesting water. There's barely any snow, 8% snowpack for this time of year and they were showing me the water level for normal at this time o...

I made a contact recently who runs tours out in Albania with Land Rovers with roof racks and has people on the ground for logistics, he's keen to get kayakers out there before all the dams go in. There's loads to explore in the south of the country. The season seems to be around April-May so I'm thi...

Put as much boiling water as you can to soften the plastic, it might pop back or hit it with a hammer, works for me every time.
