Re: Well Done Canoe Wales!

Tryweryn may be based on a natural river but it is really another facility like Lee Valley, Nottingham and Cardiff. We pay for them. The water levels in the Tryweryn rely on water from the dam. If you paddled the river before the 1981 Worlds you would know how much work has been done to the river an...

Re: Leptospirosis

It's hard to believe in this day and age that GP's don't know about leptospirosis/ Weil's disease. As a paddler and caver I've been given various cards to carry to present to A&E or a GP over the years, but the bottom line has always been get to a doctor, explain the risk and ask for antibiotics as ...

That point about multistory car parks is worth a thread in itself!!

I drove kayaks around on old minis with no problem. If you are worried about overhang tie something on the end.

Re: Liffey Descent - anyone done it?

We did the descent several times in an open boat a few years back. The ferry Holyhead to Dublin is the easiest option- you used to be able to get right into the centre of Dublin. I'm sure we went on the high speed boat (which drops you just outside Dublin ) with two open boats on top. My tip would b...

Re: Splitting 2* CW facebook

There are a lot of people out there working in centres or clubs who have to use both kayaks and canoes. They don't need advanced skills in both but do need qualifications. If it is so hard for some would be coaches to get their head round L2 in both then we obviously need separate kayak and canoe aw...

Re: Stopping overnight in France

Formula 1's have always been useful, but there are others that are similar prices. There area few places round Reims. Some are on industrial estates so maybe check parking security online.
Some of them have to be booked in advance and have keypad entry.

The logo was bad enough. The bulldog -well if it only looked like a bulldog- is hardly a canoeing icon!

Am I right in thinking that instructors always have a 'duty of care' but only have a 'higher duty of care' to children or vulnerable adults? That may make a difference in what it would be reasonable to tell a client.

Another Ardeche story....Paddling with a group through a nudist colony on a very grey rainy day, we passed a gentleman nudist fishing part of the way down a rapid. Due to the weather he was wearing a plastic mac - a clear plastic mac !
