Small numbers is 10 - 15. I wont be commenting further on this thread as it is a waste of time as the main body of the thread is long gone. It is just bitchy comments now. If anyone wants to discuss it further PM me, where I will be happy to debate the grey areas of the law.

Re: UK wide kayakers meeting

Some people are offering help. Others which is the norm on this form are trying their hardest to find fault in any situation. Not just on this thread but in general. You can read any topic and find the usual suspects nit picking. I have no time for these people. Constructive criticism is a good thin...

Re: UK wide kayakers meeting

I'm unsure as to what you mean by "area council"? Other than the established seasonal ban in place on the east shore of Loch Lomond, there is generally a legal right to wild camp anywhere in Scotland (within the terms of the relevant legisaltion, that being the "Land Reform (Scotland) Act - 2003) a...

Re: UK wide kayakers meeting

My friends were considering Inchconnachan on Loch Lomond this year for one of our trips. Not quite a grade 3 river but very remote non the less. It is about a 1 mile paddle to the uninhabited island from Luss on the West Shore. Somewhere like this would be perfect. A local river in the morning then...

Re: UK wide kayakers meeting

Doesn't Simon already do this with the Gene 17 weekend? not quite the centre of UK, but very popular anyway. I am talking of a weekend organised by ourselves, no sponsors or salesmen trying to sell is things we don't want. Just a great weekend. Gene17 organises a gathering of paddlers, and for the ...

Re: UK wide kayakers meeting

Perhaps the way to go is to hire out a campsite at low season (March?), that way you have toilets, showers etc, log cabins and tepes for those that want, and you can negotiate the fee. My other half used to do this in Dumfries-shire (the river Nith fits your description plus there are other great r...

Re: UK wide kayakers meeting

I don't think Gene17 is selling anything. It raises the profile of Gene17, but does not deal in sales. Anyway, as well as WWPF & Gene17, there is Pyranah fest, Tefi tour, MRR, Tay descent, Tyne tour.... Trouble of organising an event such as you describe is, unfortunately, insurance/health &Safety/...

UK wide kayakers meeting

Wouldn't it be great for us all to meet somewhere in the centre of the UK. Somewhere for a weekend of paddling, camping and a few shandy's to boot. If enough people were interested I am sure we could arrange something between us all. Contact a farmer with a good river (Grade 3ish) flowing through hi...

Re: Waterproof camera recommendations?

I got a Kodak easyshare C123 Sport £50ish. I also bought one of these suction mounts. Fantastic! It is that strong I can pick my kayak up with it. About £5 on ebay. I am on my 2nd one now as I destroyed my first one on some rocks. For £50 I cannot complain fantastic footatge and stills. I got my cam...

Corel Video Studio Pro X4 is excellent. I also use AVS Video Re-maker to reduce its size prior to putting it on you-tube, as this keeps the quality.

Re: Life saving air supply.

We played with this years ago when I was at school. The aim was a kayaking show, where we capsized and paddled an upturned kayak across the 200m lake and rolled up at the end. Using an airbag with a long tube, passed up the waist tube it was easy enough, but there were issues: 1. If you breathe out...

Re: Life saving air supply.

So why was it not done? Why is it not on the market? Perhaps no one has looked in to this before? I have two ideas 1 slightly pressurised and 1 idea not which I am going with. No because no one could get it to work. Show me the test documents to show it will never work. I don't need large bore tube...

I hate to say it but there have been loads of opportunity for people to look into this idea (military etc) so if it is possible it would have been on the market a long time ago. So why was it not done? Why is it not on the market? Perhaps no one has looked in to this before? I have two ideas 1 slig...

Re: Life saving air supply.

It will ready after the new year. I got a pair of check valves but they are too wide. Selecting the correct hose was also difficult as I needed hose that was wide enough but flexible enough to stop the user being uncomfortable wearing it. I will need to make the check valves from scratch. Not a big ...

They are very expensive. £150 for a 2 day course for 5 guys. £750, No chance. I recon common sense and respect for the strength of the river has got us by so far. It will just need to continue. Last time I asked most providers cost £150 a day divided by 5 was 30 quid. Very reasonable. That's better...

Re: Ingenious Splits Storage

That would not be too difficult to make. A profile gauge to make the cut out for the paddle. For the shaft holes you could either 1. Cut an cutting edge out of a suitable piece of steel tube and use it as a drill. 2. If you have access to a gas torch heat up the tube and push it in to the foam melti...

Mmmmmmm, jury is out on that one. The river looks great but I am not sure of the point of standing up then falling off a few seconds later. I would give it a try but I recon it would get boring quick.
