Re: Newbie kayak advice

Try as many boats as you can before you buy, then once you have made your mind up keep your eyes open on the second hand market including local free adds.

I keep getting logged out, and as with Chris Bolton I have ticked the remember me box. At one point I got a message to say that the session had expired.

Re: Riot Spray Deck

Peak still have riot decks in stock (or at least they did 6 months ago when I bought one). It's not as good as the old one that I had and wore out, but it is the correct size. It wasn't that expensive either.

Re: Deck for a Riot

Nic - I have a Nookie Keyhole for a different boat. I find that this is a little too loose for the Riot.

Denzil. Which Nookie small deck was it that you used on the air, was it a surf boat one?

Hi Neil

I'm not really after a cat deck but thanks for the offer.

@ Jon, what sort of price would the seals deck be, and what sort of delivery time would I be looking at?

Deck for a Riot

I've an old Riot Air, but the deck that I have for this has properties more becoming of a sieve than a device to keep water out.
Does anyone still make deck to fit Riots?

Seeing this total rubbish makes me so glad that I gave up on the BCU years ago. What a waste of money from those who grab the cash from the massed membership then totally ignore the vast majority of them.

Look at your local council. Try large organisations that have local offices, many of these have grant schemes for the community.

Re: Teaching in the Devon -Ivy bridge area

You'll find that most of the supply work will be in Plymouth, not all of these are nice places to work, but many are. The local LEA's don't have a supply register down here. Your best bet for working in schools without going through the agencies is to do some voluntary work in them so that they get ...

Re: NO MORE LLUGWY FOR US I'M AFRAID-ACT NOW

Lots of rivers are SSSI's or go through SSSI's so there is no reason why the introduction of one should or would alter access.

Roof rack for the Seat Ibiza ST

Do you have a Seat Ibiza ST with the old little integrated solid roof rails?
What solutions have you come up with for fixing a rack to these?
Did you use the Seat system or one of the after market options?
I've looked at the Thule website and they don't seem do a suitable rack.

Many thanks.

I've not noticed the issues others have mentioned but I can't get the "mark forum as read" button to work. I can click on it and it refreshes the page but does not then mark all topics as read.

Devon Avon (tidal sections) carpark costs are very out of date. This link http://www.banthamdevon.co.uk/info/index.html gives up to date info.

Re: River Dart Staverton Access hassles

The muddy bank by the bridge and stream is likely to be owned by the council or an unregistered ownership. I would suspect this as the farmer would own the land up to the middle of the stream and the other adjacent landowner (devon highways) would own the other half.

As this is a new lake I would be questioning whether there are any records of rare species using it and if not which species they are anticipating will use it (what provisions are in place to support/monitor this?) Are these species already found at similar local sites? Dependent on the birds in que...

Dean, the Biss is one of those rivers that you do once then promise yourself that you will never do it again. My memories of it are litter, litter, tree enforced portages and more litter.

You'll either upset the fishing fraternity or the sailing club by paddling on that lake, and frankly it's not worth the effort. The only time I have paddled on there was acting as a safety boat for an ironman comp.

Make sure that you pick the right spot at Avoncliff or you will find yourself with your nose stuck on the bottom and your boat facing down the weir. I can't remember that much about Staverton or the BOA weirs.

Could well just be an occupational crossing for the landowner giving no public right of way.
