Re: British Canoeing AGM

This year's AGM follows on from the official launch of the British Canoeing (English) strategy - same hotel just a couple hours earlier. Might be good to have a wide cross section of views present to feed back on teh strategy for the next 4 years. Also, attendance and relevance are a vicious circle....

Re: Andy Jackson Fund for Access

Xan, Just to clear up one point. In the nearly 40 years that I have been a member of the SCA it has never owned any land at Stanley. The various land owners over that time have been supportive, or not, of paddling activities and some have been happy for paddlers to use the land for access. There was...

Re: Open Letter to the SCA President and Board of Directors

As mentioned elsewhere, the board and the coaching committee met on Monday evening to discuss the various proposals for the structure and operation of the SCA coaching committee going forward. I will not post details of those discussions at the moment as the minutes have now been circulated to all i...

Re: Open Letter to the SCA President and Board of Directors

To lose one committee may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose two looks like carelessness. Less flippantly, what are the remedies? The AGM is coming up in October. An AGM motion has to (somewhat bizarrely) be submitted in June; a Director can be proposed for a vacancy at any time up to and includi...

Re: Open Letter to the SCA President and Board of Directors

Brian BCU refuses to answer questions on access, why is that? Morsey, The simple answer to your question (although I know you won't like it) is that it is not part of my role as BCU Chair to deal with access in England. Now, to explain that against the howls of derision that I can already hear buil...

Re: Open Letter to the SCA President and Board of Directors

Have you had a reply from Brian Chapman at all? Over 48 hours and nothing in reply is unprofessional. He's a volunteer, not a professional. By dint of being a volunteer he should not be excluded from behaving in a professional manner. Sorry, I had to delete the quote about a considerable time has p...

Re: Open Letter to the SCA President and Board of Directors

Brian. I await considerable interest to hear exactly which RCO will be able to provide the same level of technical excellence in support of SCA touring that messrs brown and rosseter are currently providing. That you as a board didn't see fit to consult with SCA touring is regrettable. That you see...

Re: Open Letter to the SCA President and Board of Directors

Dear Paul, I am disappointed to see an open letter posted on a forum before I have received anything directly from you, but I am sure that this is just down to delays in the original finding its way to me. I am doubly disappointed by the content of your e-mail which is sadly based upon very selectiv...

Re: Open Letter to the SCA President and Board of Directors

Dear Roddy, I have posted a response to Paul's initial posting in the Inland forum, but wanted to post a response to your reply in this forum as well. I am very surprised to see both of these postings, from Paul and yourself, on an open forum before either of you have contacted me directly to discus...

Re: Scottish Paddler update on consultation

I’m alarmed by the announcement in January’s Scottish Paddler about the consultation with affiliated clubs on capitation. The timescale announced is to hold this consultation early in 2010, complete it by February, and communicate the outcome in the next issue of Scottish Paddler. This timescale pr...

Re: Open letter on conduct of GM

Copy of email sent earlier today. "Dear Brian This open letter is addressed to yourself, on the assumption that you will be chairing the forthcoming General Meeting of the Association. I’m aware that you have already expressed opinions on all the Resolutions to be discussed at the meeting: neverthe...

Re: SCA SGM Jan 2010 Proxy voting - get it right

Dave, The wording on the proxy form instructions is "must be received ... not less than 48 hours before the time of the meeting" This means that the forms should arrive in the office by 11:00 on Friday 22nd January, which is after the expected time of the post delivery on that day. However, it would...

Re: If you don't like UKCC/BCU awards!

It looks like the SCA has committed to a democratic process for this in the future, so it is hard to see why resolution is required.quote] Jim Read the letter again. The letter says "the Board will decide". It doesn't mention any democratic process - you're not getting to vote on this. However, if ...

Re: If you don't like UKCC/BCU awards!

“The BCU review does not address the concerns of the SCA members with regards to the situation of clubs” This is simply untrue. The Terms of reference for the BCU review, which were published on the SCA and BCU web-sites, in early October included a list of areas to be addressed by the review. Thes...

Re: If you don't like UKCC/BCU awards!

Dear readers, As was to be expected, there has been a flurry or postings on this forum around the background to, and the purpose of, the General Meeting requested by 25 members of the SCA. (please note it is incorrect to refer to this as a Special General Meeting, which has no meaning under the 2006...

Re: If you don't like UKCC/BCU awards!

Excuse my ignorance, but ... I've seen talk here of "Why raise a SGM of the SCA and not a SGM of the BCU?" My understanding is that the BCU now doesn't have ordinary members, it's an umbrella group for the 4 national bodies - I can't join, and I can't raise an SGM. Have I got this wrong? Sorry Robe...

Re: If you don't like UKCC/BCU awards!

Where do I start? There are a lot of open questions hanging here and please excuse me if I don't try to quote from the various postings and respond directly. However, to provide some of the answers where I can:- What is the UKCC Many people on this forum use the term UKCC in reference to a wide rang...

Re: BCU Admin expenses: £6,448,329!!!

PS My guess is that the BCU accounts include Canoe England money but don't take my word for it Since Canoe England has no legal identity distinct from the BCU I guess that this is right. Incidentally, as I understand it Canoe England is run by a Council appointed by the Board of the BCU; the Board ...

BCU AGM

As a frequent reader of this site, I feel that it would be best to make my first post on this subject. As the chairman of the BCU board, I take personal responsibility for the decision taken 4 years ago to move the AGM around the 4 home countries to ensure that it is accessible to members of all nat...
