2017 Peak UK Combi – Unboxing & First Impressions

This afternoon I received a package from the nice folks in Peak UK containing their 2017 Peak UK Combi. As spring rolls in lots of Irish and UK paddlers are putting the finial touches on to their plans to escape to Europe or further afield in search of Alpine melt or big volume warm water. Over the ...

Re: Best Action Cam / GoPro for kayaking?

That Olfi looks great, not overly expensive either. Any idea how to preforms in lower like like we might expect on the average UK / Ireland winter days paddling? Re the on / off switch I totally get where you are coming from 'Is my red light on' is a standing joke between my friends and I on the riv...

Re: Best Action Cam / GoPro for kayaking?

I've never really heard much about them, is this the company? https://www.mobius-actioncam.com/

From what I can google they are only 2 megapixel cameras, is this right?

Best Action Cam / GoPro for kayaking?

The weekend before last I had a bit of a nightmare where I lost not one but to GoPros to the bottom of a river, while I wasn't directly at fault I still didn't put tethers on the cameras. An expensive lesson. In their place I took a punt on getting one of the 'Cheap' GoPro Hero Sessions and on first...

Between the Lines: Episode One

Irish Kayaker Philip Connolly releases the first episode of Between the Lines a series of videos documenting his journey in kayaking. It's a great change of pace from the regular trend of videos we see from the pros of exotic destinations and mega clean lines. This series is over 4 years in the maki...

Re: Backband tightening...... Ropes v ratchets?

Hey, For year I've been critical of Jackson and their string for outfitting, I've used ratchets in various ways for years, the only one I've never has slip or break was Riot's set up. These days I use a Zen and one of my favorite things is the rope and cleat, so easy and reliable. I like to keep my ...

Re: Splits - If not why not?

Seeing as I started this topic I might as well throw my 2 cents into the ring, for the most part I carry splits with me all of the time. They don't take up very much room, they don't weight a whole lot to be fair. Regardless if you are leading or with friends if someone breaks or looses a paddle its...

DIY Ghetto Jackson Kayaks GoPro Levator Mount

My take on a design I seen shared unsponsored.co.uk a few years ago, my version is a bit ghetto and messy but it sure works really well. It's cheap and easy to make and sure it's nice to add a new angle to the mix of the stock piles of gopro footage you take but never edit :) http://adrianshanahan.c...

Splits - If not why not?

I've noticed more and more in recent years fewer white water paddlers carry splits.

Do you carry splits, if not why not?

Just back from our short trip, we stayed in Ty Isaf. Sure it's basic but at £5 a head it's perfect.

The owners are easy going and being able to have a camp fire was a bonus.

Hi, There is one way of getting aroung the issue your haveing, you could remove the break prussik and pully number 2 and replace it with a Kong Robot, I wrote a small bit about them a long while ago here . As with all kit you use on the river do ensure you are familar with it before having to use it...

Re: Open slings/tape

I just saw this thread now from the stats on my website, aye the tape knot is a very simple knot that we all should know if we are using open slings / tape. I run a fair amount of RSR courses here in Ireland much along the same lines for the BCU WWSR awards and its rather alarming the amount of padd...

Sorry I must fully disagree about the palm kevlar - I had one (well I tired 3 sizes) and they were all awful. Replaced it with a Seals pro rand - amazing (best bit of kit I own) - I like it more than my werner sho-guns. And that's saying something. J Dizzle speak the truth, I would think the exact ...

Hey, What I expect from a dry suit regardless of the brand or price is for it to be dry, its as simple as that really. I've seen and hear this discussion time and time again over the years, the one constant is that those whom have a Kokatar GMER don't seem to suffer these problems.

Maybe thats just by chance....
