Re: First aid

Thanks Adrian. It really annoys me when an organisation puts out a list like this. I can think of at least 4 or 5 other courses that easily fit the bill but aren't on the list. Also, things like putting the Basp EMT course on the list but not the Basp outdoor first aid or advanced first aid which a...

Re: New BCU Level 4 Coach scheme

The new Level 3 is the equivalent of the old Level 5 (once you have your AWE). The new Level 4 was described to me as the award for coach educators and those right at the top of professional coaching. It will generally be wholly or partly paid for by employers rather than the coaches themselves. The...

Speak to your LCO who will be able to direct you to local clubs. They usually are in desperate need of mentors for their L1/L2s.

Re: Dynamic!

Is the word 'dynamic' overused in the canoeing/kayaking world? After all, it would be difficult to do 'static' kayaking. The Hammer’s dynamically angled planning hull, bow volume and narrowed stern keep it fast and light on a wave and super manoeuvrable around tight rock outcrops and in coastal swe...

It would be great if you or the BCU could be very clear about where this funding is to be found. How about a page of links? Please tell me how to get onto a level 1 course without a 2 star You need a two star to do a Level 1, but you didn't say anything about that previously.... as for the WWSR and FSRT we just did the same thing twice with a bit extra on the WWSR so the course provider does not know what they are doing...

Re: An Open Letter to Paul Owens

Alex thanks for the offer but you miss my point, in the old system star certificates were always free from the club coaches, now that to be a coach costs so much they now have to charge. Chris My problem now is that I do not know anyone who can issue a 2 star certificate who does not want to charge...

looks like the BCU have changed their minds on reviewing the 2 star, guess they could not figure out how to charge more for it. The BCU haven't decided on the two star review, in fact they seem paralysed between two equal opinions: a) that doing both kayak and canoe skills improves your overall pad...

Re: BCU Told to Put up or Shut up and Respect the law

I look forward to a response from the Angling Trust. The Angling Truss won't reply. Their letter to the BCU was pretty much just a publicity stunt to stir things up. The AT has no powers over anything. Not land, nor laws. So I do not know why anyone needs to talk to them. They have a fair bit of lo...

Re: An Open Letter to Paul Owens

What about level 1 you still need 2 star canoe so clubs still need to invest in a canoe which will never be used other than to get 2 star so not a great deal of use stopping it further down the line. This is one of the many many flaws which should never have been implemented if they had bothered to...

However, its detractors and critics have the lion share of attention on forums and in public which is not giving the new scheme its due. This is most likely as they are in the vast majority. It is certainly "their" awards, any minor step outside the increasingly ridge protocols, can get providerships suspended pending a review.
