Re: Return of BCU UKCC Portfolios
I haven't met an assessor who hasn't told candidates to make a copy of their paperwork before sending/handing it in. That way, should it get lost in the post/system you won't have to got chasing mentors for signatures etc. Being told to make copies is fine - but quite simply Why should people have ...

Return of BCU UKCC Portfolios
The bugbear of many coaches I am sure, but when is this likely to be resolved and candidates can rightfully have the product of their own hard work back in their own possession?

Matt's Dad: I felt compelled to comment on this, as a good friend of mine died tragically open canoeing after his boat was pinned on a tree on the River Eamont, Autumn last year. I went through the same things in my mind - but I drew this conclusion. First and foremost, you are going through somethi...

Re: Brookbank Perth to Re Open under new Ownership
Great news! The service at Perth we've received so far has been excellent as well as friendly; and I'm sure that will continue with the new branding.
Best of luck from the staff at Gordonstoun School Outdoor Education Department. We'll no doubt be in touch in 2013.

AWE Q&A
Here's a little exam paper for you folks: Q1: Is the Moderate Water Endorsement an essential pre-requisite for the Advanced Water Endorsement (taking "old" BCU Level 3 out of the equation), or will BCU/UKCC Level 2 with a 5 star suffice? If MWE is an essential pre-requisite, Why? Q2: Despite my unde...

Re: Sad news
The events of Sunday afternoon have left a family, his hometown, a rural community, an outdoor centre and countless friends from as-far-a-field as Greece and Norway deeply shocked and saddened. Whilst it is of course inappropriate to go into the specifics of what happened that afternoon, the short a...

Silecroft?
Moving to the Lakes and after having a scope out on MSW, it seems Silecroft is the surf spot of the Cumbrian West Coast. Is it any good - how many days do you get some good surf on average per month? Any reefs/rips/access problems? Is there anywhere equally good close to the Lakes without the drive ...

Southern French Alps levels - 2011 season?
Apologies if a thread is already underway, but after a brief search, only comments from March proved fruitful. Whilst it is of course to be expected that there will always be something to paddle in the Hautes Alpes region, and that the "business-as-usual" student frenzy through June will be cracking...

Organising Team Required - Student Boater X 2011
The Student Boater X has been going for a few years now, but now to keep the great tradition alive requires an organiser or team of organisers to take it on. Myself and Andy J from Leeds University were the organisers last year, and many of you will know Tom Laws was the organiser for the years befo...
