arret prefectorale

The ban has been partially lifted, http://www.hautes-alpes.pref.gouv.fr/ the only section still banned is the Durance below the barrage as presumably they need the freedom to release water to ease the lake levels. So to all intents and purposes you can paddle where you want in the Hautes-Alpes. The ...

Cycle and ski in Briancon is good. You can hire road bikes there as well. In Vallouise you can hire from Yeti Adventures - the shop is not open at the moment but if you let us know when you need bikes we can probably arrange with the owner. (Marc Renayd has writen a guidebook for just hte rides arou...

The mountain biking off the ski lifts can be quite steep unless you take the forrestry tracks which are not so interesting. However there is superb moutain biking from the top of the Pousterle - above Puy, in the Fournel and a descent off road all the way from the top of the Nevache valley. Our web ...

I understand that there is a meeting tomorrow (Monday) between local kayaking interests and the Prefecture. Hopefully after that the ban will be lifte...

John, You have chosen an excellent campsite - but I would book it in advance for that period. If you need any help send us an email and we will pass by the site. It is really quite shady. Sport 2000 in Vallouise is run by Chris Trevallion, an English guy, and they rent out via ferrata gear as well a...

Yesterday there was a definite improvement in the weather, although some rain in the evening. Excellent mountain biking conditions. The level of the rivers have dropped substantially and we had been expecting a lifting of the ban. as the water levels up near L'Argentiere are more reasonable. However...

After a drier day yesterday there is some blue sky today. The river levels are going down and some of the tributaries to the Durance such as the Rabioux are actually low! Unfortuantely although there are certainly rivers that could be paddled perfectly reasonably there is nothing on the Prefecture's...

If any paddlers out here are at a loss as to what to do consider driving up the Fressinieres (Biasse) access from L'Argentiere right to the end of the road and then walking up to Dormillouse. I don't know about the rivers, but it is not uncommon for the Prefect to issue interdicts for ice climbing or off-piste skiing in areas of extreme avalanche risk. There is perhaps a real risk that thye will also close some of the camp sites close to the rivers if there is much more rain today. Given...

The ski lifts have finally closed - but there is still plenty of snow- take a look at flyozone.com for snow kiting opportunities in the area. After 5 weeks of sun the snow has returned to the South Alps. Last week we had 30 cm of snow and good powder conditions high up; with a further 75cm of snow forecast for the next 9 days. Alps Accommodation

Snow levels are good in the South Alps at the moment. The best skiing to be had at the moment is Puy St Vincent/Pelvoux because they have benefited from the snow falls from all directions but have also avoided the wind. Given the snow pack up high it bodes reasonably well for the next paddling seaso...
