When Frank says 'pub', he does of course mean Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens, Dorset, which he often visits with his elderly aunt.

It was in the toilet though.

Re: Quick questionnaire :-)

To explain any discrepancy in participation rates, I'm sure you'll first factor in that only 24% of the female population are 'active' in some form, contrasting with 37% of males. To explain the rest you could factor in that canoes are a bit heavy if you only weight 7.5 stone yourself, it is general...

Oh, and start on something a foot or so high and work up, rather than go straight to the 20 footer. This bit really is critical.

Erik Jackson's technique really does work.

Points 5 and 6 are, as he says, critical.

Do you remember the time when a thread about the Hurley rodeo would stretch to 5 pages and be full of inventive, passionate name calling and total disagreements?

Them were the days.

So, through not doing what we're told, we now have something they want: that's validation.

We've some power in this thing now. Do not give it up without them conceding more.

Ooh, excellent - an excuse to wheel out my latest Freestyle theory, 'The Hype Cycle'. A company called Gartner tracks the technology industry and places individual technologies on a graph called 'The Hype Cycle'. When a new technology launches, Twitter for example, loads of people say it's the best ...

Re: How to revive a leaky dry cag

To revive your cag's waterproof properties, most manufacturers recommend a coat of marine varnish.

If you can't get down to your local chandler, ronseal or creosote, available at Homebase, may work.

It's amazing how a poor product coupled with even worse customer service can persist in the collective memory to cause an organisation problems 15 years down the line. There's probably a lesson in that somewhere.

Um, not related and may have been noted elsewhere (I'm not so in the loop these days) but I was reading SAGA magazine yesterday and apparently Griff Rhys Jones is doing a BBC TV series next year on 'Britain's Forgetten Highways'. The highways to which he refers are rivers. The BCU's PR team will hav...

From this thread I have learnt that the most common grounds men cite for divorce is, 'whining'. How is it that Cosmo and the like never list 'not whining' in their 'How to keep your man' articles? Do they not know this key piece of information or are they trying to increase the number of divorces as...

If I could wave a magic wand at the BCU I would have them: 1. Hire a director of communications - some senior PR type looking to get out of the rat race - and have him/her create a communication plan and be given the authority to implement it. Key to the plan would be having anything that Chris Hawk...

My fingers are metric.

Of course it would be far more logical if I had 7 and 3/8 fingers on my right hand and the fingers on my left hand were reckoned in units called knuckles, which are equal to the span of the paw of a King Charles spaniel.
