Re: RIVER GREAT OUSE (Bedford to Holywell)

Twelve months on and we're doing it again. Not much had changed last year, will this weekend be any different? Cheers, Jules And again. The backwater section that starts just below Brampton lock is getting quite overgrown/blocked with fallen trees in the 200 metres below the small weir on the right...

Re: Geology Question ...

That's for the whole degree, if you just want an introduction to geology you could just do the courses that interest you. I would recommend this one http://www3.open.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/course/s276.htm The cost would be 1/12 of the total i.e. ~£420 for the year. That course looks very similar...

Re: Pool Session Problems

Even though we have enough boats for one each, at the last session I had them paired up with one boat per pair. Any variation on Edging, braces, sculling for support, rolling etc. they're more willing to commit to the stroke and risk going over if there is someone in the water with the them to roll ...

Hi, Did this in twice March from the public landing area at Keswick. Has anyone any info on the egress at low stock bridge(?) Could I get a trailer down there to pick up boats, or do I need to carry them to the main road. Very nice get out due to wooden landing platform. We had landrover and trailer...

Re: New water fees for Tees Barrage

I live in the east midlands and use HPP regularly. I've been to the Tees course and I'll visit it again - £15 as a one off is neither here nor there in the context of a trip oop north. If I lived up there and was a regular paddler I'd be a little less impressed. My season ticket for HPP is £17.50 a ...

Re: RIVER GREAT OUSE (Bedford to Holywell)

I had a lovely 2 day paddle down this a year ago with a group of kids from school. Went from Little Barford to Holywell using many of the back channels suggested on the guidebook page.

Going again this Sunday/ Monday - is anyone aware of any changes I should know about?

Focus 3 door Roofrack at HPP Easter Monday

Problem 1: my 3 door Focus (02) with Thule roof-rack. Extender system works fine with one river boat on top but two or a single sea kayak and it starts to migrate down the roof and would eventually disassemble. Solution 1: get a new car. Solution 2: Easter Monday evening, HPP car park, Black Focus 0...

Jules, was the barbed wire fence still up? If I can remember correctly it was only a single strand, with a couple of bits of throw line tied to it? Weekend's paddling

Did the Dane on Sunday between 11 and 1. The level was just high enough to make it worthwhile but it had clearly been much higher over the previous couple of days. About halfway between Gradbach and Danebridge we walked about 20m up a trib on the right and did a little rapid. All fun. Was just begin...

I'm hoping to go from Gt Barford to Brampton to Holywell as an overnight trip with some beginners. Just to clarify... The original get out was river left before Rhydlanfair Bridge in the big eddy with the tree in it. Is this where you were getting out when he turned up? And he then directed you to get out on the other side? Yes, in this eddy. We then paddled directly across the river and got out...

I was the other half of the duo. This guy seems to have a very large petrol tank and very little to do for a farmer. He arrived within 5 minutes of our arrival at the put in and he was waiting for us at the bottom. Given that we'd run it 2 days previously at a higher level we got down pretty quick b...
