Re: Well Done Canoe Wales!

We could have a proper debate about charging if we knew how much the site costs to rent, how much the water costs, how much the commercial activity generates and what else is spent (all of these on CW members behalf). Unfortunately we don't for some reason....

Re: Advice Please

How tiny is the budget? There are lots of good second hand boats in the £300 (maybe £275) to £400 range. Any lower depends on luck or having a good friend to get something worthwhile

I went for a £15 analogue on my BA after getting sick of the digital resetting itself or setting an alarm. Also extremely easy to read even in low light.

Re: Cag maintenance advice

Try using climbing chalk (french chalk) on latex seals. The seals get sticky from the grease on your skin. Chalk absorbs the grease and also acts as a dry lubricant so the seals slip on without too much stretching. Replacing seals is pretty straightforward, so it might be worth doing yourself. Searc...

Re: What Activities (Other Than Kayaking) Build Stamina For Kayaking

15 mins Pilates + ham string stretches = core strength with minimum effort + less injury. I used to regularly pull muscles in my lower back where you describe because my core was just not strong enough and my hamstrings were too tight (most men and many women have over tight ham strings). Climbing d...

Typhoon Multisport 4 has a wide range of sizes. They do a Medium Broad which is for up to 46" chest at 5'10 and very wide (think Spongebob Squarepants). I have the Medium and the body is very generous. Size chart is linked from the product page (little icon just left of the title) http://www.typhoon...

Re: Vehicle for boats and bikes

HIgh mileage Audi A6 estates are cheap (cheaper than equivalent A4), reliable and good on fuel. They have a low roof and there is tons of room in the back. Leather seats can take a surprising amount of abuse and are fine with damp paddlers. Fantastic for long journeys

Re: Calling out the BS

Too tempting to not read and respond. Maybe people's perceptions of, and preferences for speed are actually about acceleration. I once had a Bliss-Stick Mac 1 which was appalling for the first few strokes from a standing start and noticeably worse than similar boats. Once moving it was OK and not pa...

Re: Splits - If not why not?

I always keep a set in the back of my boat. When someone turns up without a paddle, or someone in the group swims and loses a paddle, it can make a pleasant trip into an unpleasant faff.

Re: Best starter creekboat/river runner

To break the silence, here is an answer based on budget, my own personal experience and nothing else. I tend to change boats regularly and don't like losing money on them. I don't know the Superhero personally so I can't comment on that.: - if you have £300 or less get a Bliss-Stick Mystic - if you ...

I loved Bliss-sticks, but they also made the shockingly dead Mac1. All the acceleration and liveliness of a base model 1.0 diesel.

Wavesport Diesel 70

Wavesport diesel 70. £425 Great intermediate river runner. I'm about 80kgs and would say I am at the top end of the weight range. The hull is in great condition with the usual scratches but nothing more than cosmetic. The only bad is that the whiteout outfitting has lost some of its vinyl coating, b...

Re: Bl**dy Rolling

Looking good.

Maybe work on the angle of your paddle from set up. Paddle blade looks a bit flat to the water or angled down, hence the diving paddle sometimes. Eg. the roll around 50 seconds in. Try rolling the wrist more to get a better angle.

For Sale: Liquidlogic Jefe and Pyranha Karnali

I have too many boats at the moment so it's time for a clear out. Blue Jefe £375: There are loads of scratches all over, as would be expected of a boat of this age that has lived a happy life. However, there is nothing of concern and it feels bomber. Yellow and Orange £325: It is 4-5 years old and h...

For Sale: Dagger Axiom 8.5

For sale Dagger Axiom 8.5. I bought this last year from someone who had only used it twice on a canal from new. I have only used it about ten times myself and it is in very good condition. This would be absolutely perfect for a medium sized intermediate paddler and I would really recommend it as a b...
