Norfolk Broads Advice
I posted under this heading in the whitewater/touring section, but maybe people on here have more relevant experience, as this is very much flatwater touring, rather than playboat stuff. If you can help please head over to the other board!

Norfolk Broads Advice
I wonder if anyone can give some advice about touring in the Norfolk Broads this October? I am a reasonably experienced paddler having done a bit of sea kayaking, flatwater racing and touring but I do not know the area. I will have a mate with me whose sole experience is a trip we did up the Dart la...

Reading Website Adverts
Interested in a new boat so looked on the Reading site. I see it says "temporarily disabled due to high levels of spam". Fair enough but where should I go to find the small ads for a K1 now? Or is the Reading website going to be up and running for small ads again soon?

Re: Wanted XL Marathon Boat
Yes, definitely too whizzy for me. there are a number of resources on the internet for checking stability ratings. I use the Norwich CC stability ratings list and purple paddler"s list here http://www.purplepaddler.com/support-files/k1racingkayakdata.pdf and for this boat in particular, it is on a D...

Re: Wanted XL Marathon Boat
Looks like a nice boat but perhaps too wobbly for me? I am not familiar with the model and have not paddled one, but the websites indicate it is a wobble factor 2 or thereabouts?

Re: I've just ordered my first "Masters" marathon K1
Sorry, bit late the party on this. I was in a similar position to the OP and got a Carbon/Kevlar Macros (wonder if it is the same one as earlier in the thread….?). Found it tippier than a Raven and I think the "4" rating is a tad generous but certainly an option for the heftier paddler in the XL ver...

Re: Kayakathon 2014
Ah, so that is what it was! I finished a stint supporting people in the London marathon and was sitting on a boat tied up at the embankment having tea with my kids yesterday when that lot went by! Impressively composed, too, given there was a bit of chop and tide running past the bridge pillars. Whe...

Take Out and Parking at Windsor Canoe Club
Does anyone know what the situation is re take out and getting boats on top of cars at Windsor Canoe Club which I understand is adjacent to Windsor Leisure centre? A group of us from Chelmsford are doing a Thames paddle and planning to end up there. Can cars be parked overnight there?

Not paddling as I aggravated an old injury (dislocated shoulder) and doctor says "try not to do anything strenuous for about 6 weeks - especially anything like paddling a canoe" :(
This is not going to help the training plan.

I did Pewsey-Bruce Tunnel 2 weeks ago and it was fine on that stretch. Weed not a problem at all - but watch out for the horse flies!

I think I am up for it. Let me start the stupid questions from inexperienced people. Could/should you try to get some practice on the tideway? If so what is the best way to do this?

Re: 37 year old beginner to flatwater racing - winter strategy?
I took up the sport last year at the age of 49 and progressed from Cygnet to Cirrus (similar stability level to a hobby -8- but with a rudder) then to a Sceptre which is a "6". Both upgrades involved a fair amount of falling in and at first there is no gain in speed as you are too busy trying to sta...

Re: Useful tool for measuring distances for training
I have used a SatMap Active10 which is v clever piece of kit which can map routes, show you where you are on an Ordnance Survey Map, record average speeds etc. - and its waterproof! Downside is its really quite expensive, especially when cost of the map software is added in, it is quite fiddly to pr...

Re: DW training - aching "hips"
Bursitis? It's quite a common stress-related condition in this area for runners and the constant repetitive movement if you are swivelling your hips correctly could well bring it on. Sounds minor but if you can't identify what is causing it and reduce any internal swelling, could get worse and worse...

Re: K1 - natural limit to stability?
I have been thinking about the same issue, having started at the age of 49 last year, and now struggling to progress beyond the Sceptre. My experience with other sports leads me to believe that there is no limit to what you can take on, at any age, but the older you are when you start, the longer it...

Re: No boat fits
I have a boat which is really too big for me (and I am 6' and 90kg!) so maybe have what you want. I believe it is a Miramichi 17: cedar-strip and a beautiful thing. It was built with an extra-wide cockpit for the guy I bought it from. I find it rides a bit too high out on the surf for me as it is a ...
