River Bruda in Poland, its a really nice just flowing (no rapids) river in Poland. There are campsites along the way if you want or choose to camp wild. We saw a few people at the beginning but not many after that. It passes through a couple of ribbon lakes. We got a kayak hire company to do the shu...

Re: Recovery from Spinal Injury

Hi From my experience, dealing with spinal injuries by various health professionals is poor, unless you have a traumatic accident and get rushed into hospital at the time of doing it. I have damage to my spinal cord at L2 - L4, not caused by a paddling injury and am now a paraplygic but it doesnt st...

Hi
You need to read a paper by slanger & Rudestam published in Journal of research in personality 31 355-374 (1997) called motivation and disinhibition in high risk sports: sensation seeking and self-efficacy. It may be of interest to you.

Re: Outdoor leadership uni course help.

Have a look at the outdoor ed course at Uni of Edinburgh I've just started the masters course and the tutors are excellent. The other option is to spend your money on one of the fast track instructor programmes like pyb and many others run. That way you will come out with national governing body qua...

Re: Ideas for an interesting Gold D of E expedition?

DofE is about being unaccompanied and making your own decisions. Its about building skills for the future and not just gaining a certificate. They are quite right in saying that if you arent prepaired to let the group out on their own then they arent properlly trained and therefore shouldnt be going...

Re: Association of Paddlers/Coaches

I'm replying to a post further up about L5 coach being a quality mark. I'm disagreeing with this having encountered 2 level 5 coaches at a big national centre who run us a 5* training which was so bad in terms of coaching, safety, feedback etc that we got our money back. I have met some excellent co...

Re: Ideas for an interesting Gold D of E expedition?

I think another issue that comes into the equation is an assessor. It cant be any old coach but has to be someone who has done an assessors qualifying course for water expeditions. This might influence where you go depending on where they are willing to travel. The spey is a classic touring river fo...

Hi Before anyone jumps straight in and points out that C1's are open boats because they are paddled with a single blade, cheers, i know that but the reason i am still posting in this section is that i think more C1's belong to kayakers than openboaters as a C1 afterall is just a converted kayak, the...

Hi I'm trying to run an introductory day to promote open boating to a selection of kids that have just been through their 2*. If you go down the A281 and take the road left at Shalford towards peasmarsh the road goes over the wey and you can park on the left on a wide verge.
