Re: is anyone going to Mexico...

Thanks Mark Turns out an american friend that I met and paddled with in Chile last year is heading out too so I have compadres! I'm booked, going to rent a boat, as going to travel for another month after my boating month with my other half. I can't get hold of Aventura though. Do they have plenty o...

Re: is anyone going to Mexico...

Ha ha, very good thanks Dave!

Seriously though, no British groups heading out? I am really keen to eat Tacos, drink Margheritas and go creeking, and all my usual pals are otherwise engaged.

Thanks

Re: How many kayaks on a VW transporter roof?

Hi there A few years ago I came back from the alps with 7 or 8 boats on the roof of my 16 year old VW T4 with gutter clamp (Thule) roof bars...it was totally fine, honestly solid. What I do these (more sensible) days is I put a big block of pillar foam under the bars in the middle to stop it bending...

Re: Alpkit drybags

Hi guys I have just got back from a couple of multi days in Borneo where I used Alpkit bags. I was really impressed with their dryness and they outperformed some other brands during the trip. I will echo what other people have said here in that they are pretty lightweight but I would use them inside...

Re: Import duty on kayaks - India

In 2008 we had a wee man in uniform chase after us as we were leaving the airport suggesting we should be paying for our boats.
We strongly stated they were for our own personal use and he left us alone! Same happened in Russia, same result...scam?!

Re: Airport juggling...London

Thanks for the replies

...BA flight is out of the question as they now hate boats, sigh!
...Not sure of the flight number, but the inbound time is 1300.
...That bus service looks like a possibility, one to phone up...

Muchos Gracias, keep the ideas coming!

Airport juggling...London

So...flying in from Colombo Sri Lanka to Heathrow on the 3oth of August with a creek boat and need to get up to Edinburgh. I would leave the boat in London ready for my next trip but I know no-one with that much spare garage space! I've flown succesfully with a boat on Easyjet before and could book ...

Simon has some flipping stories from this trip, inspiring to say the least, not to mention bloody scary. He arrived in Edinburgh straight after being in Chinese custody. I'd only been paddling for a year and was instantly in awe:-)

Re: Removing an Everest's foot rest

Its very easy, just try it, you'll have stacks of room up there. Be carefull with the metal arms though, the aluminium is very soft. After 4 months of constant packing the front one of my arms snapped. I discovered this as we were putting on at the top of the Thule Beri after flying in, oops! Luckil...

Kinesphere and laban movement would probably cover it. Laban movement as a term for 3D awareness? Really? I was under the impression that Rudolf Laban was more into analysing movement and devising ways to express movement in a written form e.g Labanotation. I'd never heard it used as a term for a p...

If you go late enough in the season, or pick your runs carefully, then many Norwegian rivers can be run as easy pool drop
Ok ok, I wasn't clear enough obviously... Voss in June is creeking with plenty water and needs skill. Is that better?

Re: Creek only

Seeing the standard of some paddlers who go "creeking" and nothing else is quite funny sometimes. It is quite easy to throw yourself off a drop and it dosent take an awful lot of skill to do so. You put them on a river with a bit of flow in it and they are completely lost and swim easily, due to ha...

Definately the Salto man, you will want every bit of speed and length you can for punching those big norwegian holes.
