Re: Rainbow Kayaks

Paddled one of their expedition sea kayaks a couple of years ago - the plastic seemed a bit soft compared to P&H plastic, it felt wide and sluggish compared to a Scorpio but very stable as you might expect of a "wider" boat. I guess you get what you pay for!!

Re: Slow waters in Brecons for round trip in an inflatable?

East of the Brecons ...... the River Wye? Be aware that there are difficulties with the launch point at Glasbury so you could start at Hay-on-Wye, but it is really a one way trip - downstream!

Just a reminder that the launch point at Glasbury is "closed" at the moment .....

See https://www.canoewales.com/update-on-th ... -river-wye

It would have been the obvious trip - get up to Glasbury and paddle down.

Re: Freezing pump system

Check out Google ..... CTX9-BS appear to be rated at either 8 or 9 Ah. I would have thought checking out the technical literature on the pump would tell you how much current it would draw - but it should just run down the PKCELL quicker than the CTX9-BS .......

Re: Lifeboat shouts up 60% in 2020?

On BBC Radio 4 today. Despite, or even because of COVID. Apparently SUPs are a main reason? Was that the conversation with a guy from RNLI? He advocated wearing a leash - either waist or ankle. Did I not read of a drowning when the casualty could not reach his ankle leash to release himself?? Ankle...

Re: Into strong head wind

Going back to the original post and all the contributions related to paddling into a strong head wind ....... I would suggest that it might be that the number of strokes per minute does not change or even goes down. If you consider forward paddling as made up of a period of time where the paddle is ...

Hi I am Professor of Hand Surgery at the Pulvertaft Hand Centre https://pulvertafthandcentre.org.uk/ and we have had a long interest in cold intolerance after injury. There is increasing interest in cold intolerance after repeated exposure to cold water and a condition called Non-Freezing Cold Inju...

Re: Introduction and looking for advice.

I especially agree with your last paragraph. I have a dislike of people saying there is only one way to do things and their way is of course The Way. This attitude stifles creativity, imagination and evolution of techniques. I have a dislike and doubt of some of the techniques I've seen promoted by...

Re: Paddle length, not that old question...

Probably the best way to decide paddle length is to go paddling with other people and borrow their paddles. I am about 180 cm tall and set my Celtic 4-way splits at 215 cm - the width of your boat has an impact as does how upright you sit .....

Re: Hatch rim screws, catch fabric etc

Stainless dome nuts? You may still need to cut some screws to the right length to work in dome nuts. A cheaper alternative is plastic/rubber caps you can stick on the screws, but I don;t know where you get them and they always fall off anyway. You might be able to achieve a compromise using some of...

No experience of ear issues, but I did have a paddler who returned to paddling after a ten year gap. After getting them back in the kayak for the umteenth tim...

......... However, what a unique opportunity to get out on rivers and inland waterways when they are amazingly quiet - - very few motor boats, - no rowing eights, - no anglers, - no hire craft, - no large groups of novices, etc. Plus it's a beautiful time of year, the weather is wonderful, and many...

I hesitate to offer an opinion but here goes ....... I think 65 kg will be okay for either, but 75 kg might be getting a bit heavy ......
