Re: Stiff hands

2 Quick suggestions:
Relax!
Flex your top hand - open the fingers and have the paddle shaft supported on the palm and thumb - it is meant to be "a fixed point" - relative to the shoulder. (Difficult if you're wearing pogies I guess.)

Re: Kayak Related Questionnaire

Yes there are. I've found a lot of similarities within peoples answers even on the open ended questions. Having them as open as they are lets me see the full scope of answers, rather than generated replies that I have offered. It may take longer to go through results and find recurring issues, but ...

Re: Trees on Mellte & Usk / recent floods

Walked over the bridge at Abercamlais at the weekend. (About two thirds the way from Sennybridge down to Aberbran.) The bridge has suffered considerable damage in the recent flood, the upstream parapet and part of the roadway have collapsed. There were two diggers on the riverbed clearing the debris...

Re: River running Usk in composite boat

The Usk has about a quarter of the catchment of the Wye ..... so it drains quicker. This morning Trallong showing 0.49 m - I reckon 0.60 m is a nice level for 3* ww kayak training. It looks like it is dropping about 0.10 m a day so I would not bother this weekend - but it will be your call! The sect...

My Dam X 3000 is still going strong after 11 years ..... okay it needs replacement seals once in a while but Andi has always got the suit back to me within days (usually posted to him Monday, back by Friday). Made to measure! After some discussion Andi added a belt above the hips to stop the suit sl...

Race Coach training

There will be Racing Coach Training courses at Gloucester Canoe Club on the weekends of 3 & 4 November and 24 & 25 November. The only pre-req is to have done (or APLed) the Core Coach training. Re: BCU 3 star assessment questions

We have an assessment coming up in October, on reading the guidance notes maybe someone can help with some questions? - What would constitute a basic repair tape? Duct tape (waterproof?) and cable ties along with the knife? - For paddling to a bearing I assume a walking type compass around my neck ...

Lydbrook Bridge (River Wye) - partial obstruction - June 2018

Be aware that repair work has started on the bridge to allow its use for pedestrians. They are erecting scaffolding on river left and have cordoned off that side of the river. When I was there Tuesday river right was open and I guess they will only work on one half at a time.

Email coaching@britishcanoeing.org and ask for the link to the Google doc .....

I think it has changed since earlier this year - once you have the authorisation number ensure you have the link to the Schedule - another Google doc.

Re: Air bags

People do tend to leave the bags in the boat - but if you are moving from river to pool to river it is a lot easier to clean the inside of the boat if you take them out!

Taking them in and out takes time - and once out is something else to forget.......

Your 4% is worth comparing to the "just noticeable difference" observed by Ernst Heinrich Weber ...... which he observed as 5% for weight differences - and Fechner assumed applied to all senses - a questionable assumption!

Re: PFD - Do you ever paddle without one?

Depends upon the canal! Back in the BWB days the bridgekeepers on the Gloucester-Sharpness Canal included officious guys who seemed to look for reasons to ask you to leave the water - but most took the view that if you looked as if you knew what you were doing they would leave you alone. Nowadays th...
