Do the course providers not supply the kit required as i have seen some supply all kit needed.
Some do, some don't ...... It is not a requirement to provide suitable kit - indeed part of the course is looking at kit to see how suitable it is.

Re: WWSR Course

A dry suit! I always tell people that they need to be competent paddling Grade 2 and okayish on Grade 3 - otherwise they will not get the most out of a WWSR course. You will get wet - swimming - throwline work - you don't want to be wearing a wet wetsuit with the wind blowing through it.

IIRC the rules for Devizes to Westminster are that BAs should be less than 5 years old.

Re: New MKII Scorpio, or buy a used 2010(?) model?

Nothing wrong with a used boat if money is tight .... you might have to wait a couple of months for delivery to get what you want new! The MkII has the option of the "scudder" - I'd stick with just the skeg. The Corelite version is noticeably lighter when it comes to putting the boat on the car roof...

Ran the section from Glyndyfrdwy to Horseshoe Sunday 3 December. About 0.8 m on the gauge at Corwen which was a good level. Something like 8 pairs of fishermen out, mostly silent but one or two did wave and even say Hello!

Re: End of a dream?

In reference to my original post, can I ask who are the owners of the whitewater courses in the UK and how was the construction financed? I think the Nene WW Course was financed by Lottery money. It is home to a canoe club and a rowing club - but no longer the novelty it was in the early 2000s .......

Maybe the FIRST question for a Personal Performance Review should be - What are they for? For those who get into the coaching route they are pre-requisites that show you have some mastery of the skills you are going to coach. For others?? Maybe for young people they provide some kudos - but for adul...

No such thing as a stupid question - just stupid answers. There are probably a lot of people with the same question - but they lack the courage to ask! Are you going out for a day practicing rescues? No - so don't wear a dry suit! If the sea conditions are such that you reasonably expect to stay in ...

The bow skeg is used alone when going to windward, and the stern skeg alone when sailing downwind. Nick http://imageupper.com/i/?S1200010050011X1506016721863536 Genius! So it wa...

Re: Kayak design, how to determine handling in wind?

To a first approximation it must depend upon the projected area of the boat presented to wind ....... So you want the projected area in front of the axis of rotation to be equal to the projected area behind the axis of rotation. Here is a thought ... could you mount a skeg at the bow as well as the ...

Obviously the tube from the bladder is going have to be attached to the boat between drinks otherwise exiting will give you a little grief. How about a BA with a hydration bladder in the back pocket? I'd only go for a litre of fluid at most and then top up otherwise it becomes uncomfortable.
