Minho is dam release, on the northern border between Portugal and Galicia. Only been there at Easter so not sure if the releases are big enough for kayaking in the summer though.

Re: Help me resurrect a trip to India
Good to paddle with you Robin, sorry it was only for 1 day. Did we work out you are older than me then? As a fellow 42 year old I am planning on loads more expedition (holiday) type trips.

Re: highest waterfall paddled uk
All the stuff in the video has been run at least a few times (like Llanberis Falls) or a lot , like the Gamlan, in boats that are not Topos. These newer boats survive but not crashing into as much stuff on the way down.

For whitewater (unless you are a midget, a behemoth or an idiot) use 45 degree 200cm paddles.

Yep, was an easy one , but a pretty picture. The level shown above is a normal low flow, about double that and it is one of the best road side runs in the world.

The put in town didn't look so different 4 years ago when I was there. Slightly disappointing section given how much it is hyped in the guide book.

"I seem to remember the Mawddach goes pretty low. Or was it that it stays up a bit longer? So long ago I can't be sure of anything any more..." No you need big rain for the Mawddach, and it drops fast, you shouldn't really run it lower than 0.7 on the gauge and I personally wouldn't bother under 0.9...

The are pushing forward with the dam on the Humla and the Arun, I can't see why the Thuli would be exempt, it is in a more isolated position though. Unlike the Thuli, both the Arun and the Humla start in China. 3 of the best multidays in the world right there.

I have a red one in North Wales, 1 year old , well used so lots of scratches but no splits or welds , £450 if you pick it up or I can get it to the Tryweryn. I am away for a week but can take some photos after that, or if you are local you could just take a look.

Re: Flat water slalom, longer boats better?
I have a pretty good condition 4m slalom boat for sale if you want. Made just before the regs changed so the most modern design of 4m boat you can get if that makes sense. Top construction. £100 , no offers , big cut for 80-90kg , collection from Betws y Coed.

Re: Norway questions
I looked at Norwegian Air but the biggest boat they will take is 250cm and ours are all longer than this. I have been looking at flying into Sweden with Easyjet and hiring a car from there. Thanks for the tips. Never actually had one measured, last year we flew with a Granite L, Tuna 2s, a Stomper ...

Re: Norway questions
Norwegian Air take kayaks no hassle out of either Edinburgh or Gatwick to Bergan then you can hire a car at the airport and head to Voss or catch the train to Voss (kayak on the train is no probs). The other option is to fly with them to Oslo then catch the train to Otta (again no prob with a kayak)...

Hi Simon, as above you need the discharge curve. We were able to do all the calcs required for the Fairy Glen flow analysis for the Hydro scheme on publicly available data. Tim Burne did most of the preliminary work on this for us and without him we wouldn't have known where to start, it is pretty o...

Simple way to decide:
Are you a girl? Yes - Sherpas
No - Powerhouse
I have used both, I switched to Sherpas when recovering from a shoulder op for a while, they were too small even then.

I have always used Qatar, awesome service at check in and in-flight. Have always rung ahead to book the kayak after booking the flight online but never been charged. Re: Faster, bigger, stronger, new gen boats vs older
Boats are bigger now because that's what they need to be. Anyone who had run class 5 multidays in the older generations of boats will be fully aware you had to effectively knock a grade of what you would normally attempt to compensate for the loaded boat. I think Mark R had a quote along the lines o...
