Re: Timelapse

My little Pentax Optio W20 has a timelapse facility
I've made a few timelapes with my Optio. As others have suggested, I left the camera for a few hours taking a (low-res) photo every 10seconds and then used Windows Movie Maker to play them together.

Re: Portugal trip advice sought

I went back in 2002 & 2003 when packing 6 boats onto a Ryanair flight for a long weekend was cheap & easy. Ah, the good ol' days! So I don't have any recent practical advice, but I certainly do recommend it. We went in December both times, flew to Faro from where its a mere 2hr drive out to the west...

Re: BC Paddlin Tips

BA used to be the obvious choice but no longer fly boats. I don't know how the other airlines doing the UK > Vancouver route handle boats (Air Canada, Globespan, Thomson, IcelandAir). In my own experience, I sold my boats in the UK before moving here and then bought again. (I brought my mountain bik...

Completely off-topic seeing as The Gap is in Wales but....it is a great route. Make sure you do it going from south>north and look out for the cream-tea shop near Pentwyn Reservoir (it was there 3yrs ago): http://gallery91017.fotopic.net/c1024337.html Not so good if it unexpectedly snows the night b...

I don't think its a problem for rental cars, but as always, check the T&Cs. I've just looked at Thrifty Canada, Seattle airport was on the list of drop-off locations so its probably very common. The bigger problem is the border crossing, where the security is fairly tight. You'll get through eventua...

For future reference on BC trips, it's probably worth checking out flights to Seattle. During yesterday's fiasco I checked flight prices for my sister and the LHR>Seattle flight was 420GBP return, versus 950GBP return to Vancouver. Seattle is only 3hrs drive from Vancouver (assuming that you don't g...

Yes, bad times indeed. My sister was due to fly out today to visit me in Vancouver so she got well and truly caught up in it. By the time she heads home (her holiday is over before it started) she'll have spent 24hrs at Gatwick. :o( You can add Air Canada to that list of non-kayak friendly airlines....

I used Windows Movie Maker, it was pre-installed on my PC. 1) Import all the photos into the media area. 2) Go to Tools > Options/Advanced and reduce the "Picture Duration" setting to a low number (I chose the minimum 0.125 sec) 3) Drag all the photos onto the timeline. Then File>Publish and save it...

I didn't have any problems with it on my camera (W30). I went through the menu options to set the interval settings, timer etc. Once you've exited from the menu, use the "up" arrow to select the timer mode and choose the interval option. I agree with Mike, you can always edit out unwanted material at a later stage. Same goes for choosing photo resolution - my first attempts were done using the lowest resolution (640x480), each photo approx 150kb. I moved to the 1024 resolution for the "Skook B" shoot (each photo approx 300kb), which...

Desolation Sound timelapse (one for Pentax Optio users)

For those of you with a Pentax Optio W30 (and maybe the W20?), take a look at the "interval mode" setting in the menu. I recently upgraded to a W30 and tried it out on a recent trip to Desolation Sound and Skookumchuk. After a bit of fiddling in Windows Movie Maker, these are the results from my fir...

Skookumchuk timelapse (one for Pentax Optio users)

I recently discovered that my Optio W30 has an "interval shoot" mode, which cunningly opens up the possibility of making timelapse movies. My first experiments are here, taken from a trip last month to Skookumchuk. Skook B - Watching the wave build from flat calm Skook A - Dark skies over Skookumchu...
