Staying warm

I have been thinking for some time about getting one of these, as mentioned by Randy Fandango in another thread: ... http://www.kentdiving.com/Undersuits/Weezle-Extreme-Plus-Undersuit/p-303-2299/ Giles The ones designed for diving (http://www.ewetsuits.com/acatalog/Thinsulate-undersuits-drysuit-flee...

Re: New Forum

It'll take some getting used to, but I appreciate the work that's gone into it, thanks. I like the fact that all the forums now show on my screen in the index, no annoying scrolling up and down. Also, when people post pictures they all seem to fit on the screen, don't know if that's automatic or not...

No, neither of those I'm afraid.

It's likely they were lost on Friday, when the water was higher, as they were resting in a tree a couple of feet above Sundays water level!

Lost & Found Paddles - River Dart

We lost a set of Schlegal Duralens (Blue plastic blades, aluminium shaft) on Friday 5/12/08 on the Dart Loop at Triple....... But found some paddles on the Lower Dart, just above Buckfast Weir on Sunday 7/12/08. Please post here or pm, with a description if you've lost yours, or found ours. Thanks!!!!

We also never run this weir, and I explain why to others when they ask. The group had portaged river left, the instructor was on the bank river left (just by the play hole at the bottom of the weir). Apparently the bloke mentioned the monks and said they own both sides and that they said we shouldn'...

Cheers Si, I'll ask him. The students were apparently on the water, but the other instructor was on the bank. Apparently the fella was fairly clear it was the water that he thought we shouldn't be on. Unfortunatly he'd gone by the time I got there, otherwise it would have been a slightly longer conv...

Access issues on the Dart

On Friday I paddled the lower Dart with a group of students (Holne bridge to Buckfastleigh). My collegue was in front of me with another group and at Buckfast weir was approached by a man who asked him if he was aware he was trespassing. My collegue said as far as he knew there was an access arrange...

I've got a Typhoon multisport, it's been brilliant and perfect for me, however I'm a slim size 10, with not many curves! My friend wore it at the weekend and she found it rather snug around the hips. Having said that, if needed I would have been quite willing to go up a size if that had been the onl...

Erick, If you were in a trad boat the easiest ways to paddle backwards are either using a reverse j (push the paddle forwards, then turn it so your thumb on your top hand is pointing towards you, like a bow rudder) or a backwater stroke (paddle one stroke backwards on your paddle side, then turn you...

Having paddled the lower Dart (Buckfastleigh to Staverton) twice in the last few months I've met 2 fishermen, the first was a fly fisherman to whom I got out my boat to ask him whether he'd prefer us to walk round, or minded us paddling past. He was not impressed with us being there to the point of ...

Egress for Lower Dart now a building site

The buildings at Staverton by the railway are getting turned into flats, a builder saw us getting off yesterday and saved us some hassle by pointing out the big fence between the river and road. He suggested carrying on a further 400yds downstream and getting out there (an old slip way?), although o...

When I got my C1 people often asked me "why?". The answer's simple: Because it's different, fun and most all of, makes me giggle every time I paddle it. I may be better in a kayak or a trad open, but when I fancy something to just plain make me smile- the C1 wins every time. I've had a go in an OC1,...

I have exactly the same problem, for years I wore a pair of Reed fleecey socks under a pair of Palm neoprene socks, inside 5.10 Canyoneers. My feet still got cold, so this year I have finally bought a drysuit with integrated feet. This weekend I wore regular socks and hiking socks under the drysuit,...

If you have the patience, you could strip the insides of the boat out, then (carefully!) kneel in it with someone watching you (and possibly holding the boat) who can tell you if you need to move forwards or back. Then just mark off your position, and cut the saddle to fit. Duckboy says "I'm lazy, s...

How about the start of the Exe descent- Salmon steps weir at Tiverton. You'd have to talk to the owner of the field about access, but he used to let people in on the day of the race. That gives you spot X for the freestyle (does depend on water level though), and the river through into Tiverton for ...

Unless the river's really tanking down you can pretty much paddle up to the weir and back to the egress, so don't panic about missing it, if you park your car right by the river you can pretty much get off right beside your vehicle.

From the usual layby, go over the bridge and it's the next turning on the left (a sharp turning, almost going back on yourself)- so it's on river right. Your grid reference is right. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&q=Denham+Bridge,+Devon&sll=50.583237,-4.064941&ss...
