Epic 18x sea kayak for sale.

I'm selling an Epic 18x sea kayak, the boat is in good condition and has been modified with an extra bulkhead, day hatch, and the later Track Master 2 rudder system. The deck lines, elastics, and hatch straps have all been renewed. The seat and footplate are both adjustable so the boat should fit mo...

Goretex Drysuit

I'm selling a Musto MPX Gore-Tex drysuit, new with tags, size medium, red, Adidas branded as made for London Olympics. These suits retail for around £600, really good quality, I use it's big brother the HPX for surfski and kayak and really can't fault it, it's the best drysuit I've ever used, the br...

Surfski/Ocean racing ski

I'm selling my Stealth Performance Products Envy surfski, 644cm long, 44cm wide, composite construction. I now paddle an Epic V10 so the Stealth is no longer needed. The main question everyone seems to ask is about stability, it was my first surfski, I went from paddling an Epic 18x to paddling this...

Re: Taran owners?

The V10 is a couple of steps up from the Taran in terms of stability, the V8 would be the closest, with a small step up to the V10s and then another step up to the V10. In terms of speed capability the V8 would be a bit faster, the V10s faster again, and the V10 another step up. How fast, really dep...

Re: Broaching your surfski…and how you can prevent it

If you want to really confuse this, what about the footstrap on the ski, using it to hang from when laying way back, does that effect the attitude of the bow?

Re: Broaching your surfski…and how you can prevent it

I had my Epic 18x out on the loch yesterday, flat calm conditions, when loading the boat back onto the roofrack I noticed a tide mark running the full length of the boat, Mark R's 1/2 " would have lifted the first foot or so of the boat above the water, my ski has more rocker than the 18x and less v...

Re: Broaching your surfski…and how you can prevent it

When on a runner in a surfski you will most likely be using a trailing brace, directional control will be rudder, when you lean back to stop a broach you'll be using that brace for support, using the rudder for steering, if you can then possibly edging the ski as well. We're not talking about a sudd...

Re: Broaching your surfski…and how you can prevent it

It's definitely a good article as far as paddling a surfski is concerned, as for kayaks the explanation of the causes of a broach is useful but I'm not sure about the techniques. The ski rudder is much larger and a long way from the stern, a kayak rudder would be high and dry if you used the positio...

Re: J-Bar recommendations

I would suggest that if you don't currently have any form of carrier fitted that you check the spacing of the roofrack cross bars or the fixing points for the rack against your boat, I have ended up using a homemade K1 style carrier as the fixpoints on the car were so close together that both cargo ...

Re: Got me a SOT beach toy...

What kind of leash are you using, straight, like a surfer or a coiled, phone cord style? I had the straight leash to begin with and recently replaced it with a coiled Mocke leash designed for surfski use, the coiled one works much better, no more loops of line hanging out of the boat or wrapped arou...

Mark, if you use Facebook look for "surfski scotland", we have a growing band of paddlers on there, not all based north of the border, there is every level of experience represented and everyone from racers to leisure paddlers.

Re: Got me a SOT beach toy...

The G40 is a race boat, fairly unstable, with a deep bucket which will make remounts more difficult, if you have some K1 experience then I'm sure you'll be fine. The leg leash is a necessity, when you come off a ski you are immediately separated and if you have any wind blowing you really won't enjo...
