Re: First Playboat.

If the performance on the wave is considered the JED and Rockstar are great on the wave, project-X is still fairly good, but Mobius and Jitsu are quite disappointing.

Re: Is play boating a kids game?

I don't think it is. As I'm getting older I feel like I'm playboating better than ever. In riverrunning, to put the skills in test, these days I'm more often portaging because of the risk.

Abyss - different lines on a video

I thought this was quite nice video to see the differences in outcomes with slight slightly different entries to the rapid.

Re: Feather and rolling.

If you are wearing elbow pads then the reverse screw is lovely as your face is covered by a padded elbow that happily bounces of any rocks until you roll. If you do this in a shallow river when not wearing elbow pads however, it can bloody hurt! Denzil Yes, your face is mostly protected by arms. On...

The year of 2013 was not a big year of paddling for me. It was, however, not without some bright highlights. During the spring run-off, a one week of premium big water surfing including the Åretsvågen at optimal water level - the best wave for freestyle paddling anywhere. https://lh4.googleuserconte...

Re: WW paddling - would be better if it carried less risk...

There is inherit risk in whitewater paddling that there is no way around it. Sometimes, in some cases I wish there was less of it. My favorite type of rapids are big and powerful, but with clean lines that carry no extra hazards. Especially last summer, as we road tripped around Northern Norway on s...

I didn't say he was samey, I said kayak vids are all becoming very similar. Nothing new is happening whether that be new tricks or a new concept. Haters gonna hate. You don't kayak to make videos or invent new tricks because a video would be lame without it. What Dane is doing with his paddling is ...

Does the Artic canoe race still run - haven't heard about thsi for years (decades?). If it doesn't run, does anyone know why? It runs, but it doesn't. Nowadays it's a commercial river trip instead of a race. They also change the river every year. Last summer the ACR trip was done to Kalix river ins...

What's the water like up there (apart from cold)? I thought it was mainly flat.
Rovaniemi:
It's cold now, but not in summer. It's quote flat yes, but Sweden and Norway is close enough with better gradient for whitewater rivers. Some big volume rivers closer to us with good play.

Re: Lusaka to Livingstone?

Mazhandu was fine with boats, we had to pay 50 000ZMK extra for two boats which I think is not too bad (£6). The biggest hurdle is to get from Lusaka airport to the bus station. The taxi costs 150 000ZMK which is a lot considering the whole way from Lusaka to Livingstone in a bus a cheaper. The taxi...

Re: Tips for high volume

Rhythm and timing is is important. In big volume every wave and feature becomes a move which you have to anticipate. If your just reacting you'll get knock over and worked all the time. Mostly the anticipation means leaning into features. That way you might get pushed, but will stay upright. When yo...

The Mölheimbekken does look good. I went and looked at it with CallumS on Simon's recommendation, but when we got there it was at least 2-3ft higher than in the video above. Re: Advice on Northern Norway in August

In the north you have two locations where there is lots of good boating around: Hattfjelldalen and Saltfjellet north of Mo I Rana. Both locations have runs which run late to the season and some runs which need a bit of rain to get going late in the season. Good resources for some of the runs in the ...
