Re: River Dart tragedy 21/11/9 - PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

I just read the news here in Vietnam.
I'm not sure if I ever met Chris directly but I always read his stories and I am shocked to hear what happened.
My thoughts are with his family and many many friends at this moment.

I never wanted to get involved in the whole JJs stuff but..... After seeing firsthand what happened I will be keen to fully support any protest, picketline or call for donations. We really have to come together on this and show our stance against it or it could lead to all riparian owners following ...

I don't know much else as I'm not directly involved.

Just know the guy works for paddleworks and that JJs were possibly trying to make an example of him.

That's the last £3 they get out of me.

JJs get Paddleworks Paddler Arrested when leaving work

I have just come back from Llangollen and Nigel (I think his name is) from Shrewsbury club was arrested by police at the Llangollen site for Fraud under the 2006 act stated on all the signs around JJs. He was taken for questioning and gave a statement. (As far as I heard all paddleworks employees ha...

Hmm I can see the point of people on both sides. If you blow it up then you destroy the identity of the rapid and what nature has created and you interfere when Kayakers are supposed to be leaving no trace and floating by. Then again I can see the idea that if it is causing fatalities then should it...

I never even realised that kinda thing happens on the river. I must be missing a key part of the skill of kayaking.

I also thought this was about kayakin and flirtin though. Was a bit disappointed when it was just about filtration.

Prices for diesel have always been lower by a proportion than they are here. They have also gone up but there is still the same margin between prices here and prices in France.

what should be done in a situation like this?
Is it the sort of thing you can report it to the police.

Additional things that make me suspicious are the fact that 1: it's from a brand new seller
2: It's based near where the pyranha factory is. I know they had a lot of boats go missing a while back.

Anyone know which rapid it was or has run it? It was a bit annoying how the camera angle kept changing. I didn't like how they only showed it in slow motion as well. His line was quite interesting as well but managed to avoid some nasty things. I wonder if speed could get you through some of it thou...

Yeah he thinks he's big and cool but he still missed the big eddy in between the two drops. ;)

He didn't break the rapid down like you should.

Nevertheless he has taken the time to evaluate what has gone wrong and has learned from the mistakes and has shown us why we do/don't do certain things. I would be happy to assist him but I think there are ...

The kind of 999 call that makes my blood boil, what about some level of personal responsibility. I can't imagine calling in a helicopter because I'd got a bit cold and lost my shoes. People who ski tend to go in large droves in the season and have large amounts of money and are not a market BA want to alienate. There are fewer kayakers and they tend not to be a big consistent consumer base to get involved with. Hence with their new (and blatantly useless) baggage system it was e...

It maybe more natural to lean back and it may look cooler when you get half your body in from doing a demonstration. The problem comes from when you lean back you are in less balanced position to recover than when you are leaning forward. If you are leaning forward it is a lot easier to quickly conv...

Well personally when I used the Burn I found it a bit bulky and unresponsive to use. I paddled it for 4 days in the Austrian Alps. Then again I do only weigh 10 St and paddle a very flimsy feeling H2 but that is my personal opinion and I wouldn't buy one for myself. Best thing I'd say is have a go w...

He is to the right of me if you look at the picture and class me as standing on the left and then look to the next person on the right.

Well I was away in the Lakes for the weekend. There was a Sep but it was the person to the right of me in the photo. The river was the Upper Oetz which can be a pretty big and continuous grade 4+ run in summer levels. Sadly when we ran it, it was really low but with very pretty scenery. More pics to...

No None of them are called Gunther or any of the names above. Tom I think you got the wrong person if you mean the little kid but one of them is called Sep.

Someone did get a place near to the correct river but he spelt it too wrong to be sure.
