Re: Cockpit rim repair

Great, Thank folks....

I have epoxy resin and diolene - that's what it looks like the boat is made of.

Fingers crossed!

Cockpit rim repair

I have an old boat that is needing a repair along the cockpit rim; an area of 3 or 4 inches is all cracked and flexible, as opposed to being rigid.
Whats the best way to repair this and keep the correct curves?
I assume I'll have to chop this bit out, and rebuild it somehow?

Thanks,
Jim

FS: Sea king

Paddle a bit of history.. I'm never going to fit into the Sea King again, so she's up for sale.... Traditional hard chined design, from the days when Sea Kayakers had beards and smoked pipes..... Goes great in a straight line when trimmed correctly (no skeg so it's all down to loading and technique)...

According to the build page PE means plastic.....

I would assume they've tweaked the PE version to make it work better in that material?

Are you on Facebook? There's a Surf Kayak Scotland group on there.

There's quite a few places to paddle around you- check out the surfing beaches around the Moray Coast, as well as the North Coast

If you're ever up in the True North ( Shetland), give me a shout :-)

There's pictures and video of the good folk in huge conditions........ going back to the video of the worlds at Thurso. It all depends on the size of your cojones..... I start to get twitchy at 4-5 ft. Once it gets bigger, its a serious battle with that little bit that asks "do you really want to do...

Re: Best paddle for surfing

Most folk surf with a shorter paddle than they'd use for touring. I'm about 6 ft and my surf paddle is 194cm; other people will go shorter still... I suppose if you have money burning a hole in your pocket, then get a shorter pair. Otherwise persevere until you can get a dedicated set for the axiom ...

Re: Surf kayak do I need one

Yes! Next question.... You can have fun in the surf in a couple of feet- it doesn't have to be big and gnarly; in fact wee waves give you an opportunity to try out things without the trashing factor......... Size wise, I think they're fairly accurate. I'm currently too heavy for my build at 105kg ( ...

the loops - where are they?it could befor a lap belt or fixings for a back strap? If the seat feels comfy(ish) and you're not having to paddle like you're doing a crunch, then its in the right place...... Maybe get a frend to take a photo and check your trim? Don't start fiddling with things - you'l...

This page is a good starting point http://www.surfkayakskills.com/fins.php The exact process you use will depend on your approach to fiddling with things...... I know of people who spent a session adjusting the fin position time after time. Personally, I started off with them about 1/8 of the way ba...

That's opening a big can of worms? I think, strictly speaking, that its a stalled top turn? I suppose it does count as 'rail to rail surfing' , even although it doesn't look very elegant. (It's not something I can do just now though, so I can't really judge it, can I?) It's a move that the higher ra...
