Re: How many paddles have you owned?

I've had 4 sets of paddles.
Metal loom plywood bladed monstrosities.
Carbon/Kevlar Freeblades
Carbon Galasport something or others
Werner Stikine.
I've still got the last two and that's in 30 years of paddling.

Found: Nookie 15m throwline

Found Thursday on the Upper Gloy. The mobile number is illegible but the name is clear enough. PM me with the name on the bag to confirm that it is yours and to arrange repatriation.

Dart was a good foot below the slab at 12:00. Looks like we'll need a fair bit of rain to get it going.

Re: A survey about out of season paddling on the Dart

Just a bit of retrospective from last year. Paddled the Upper at least twice every month apart from September and saw 1 fisherman in the whole time.
Paddled last Saturday and saw no-one other than walkers and paddlers.

Some weeks ago the driver told me that it was between 13:00 and 14:00 but couldn't be more precise than that.

Re: The gloves are off?

I tried using all weather golf gloves for paddling to see how they felt. The good news was that they really did feel good, there was plenty of feedback from the paddle and grip was good too. The bad news was that they actually made my hands colder possibly because they kept water next to my skin. My...

Re: Paddling questions...

I think having a roll on both sides is more beneficial psychologically than practically. If you only have a one-sided roll and you can't use it for some reason then your initial reaction may well be one of panic which could lead to a wet exit. If you have another option then you are perhaps more lik...

My go, Upper Dart, bottom of the slabs. Downtime - 5 Had to swim for surface and once there kept going back under. Fear Factor - 3 No abject fear, just a strong desire to get the hell out of Dodge as fast as possible. Mystery moves - 8 Multiple ends performed courtesy of the hole. Distance 3 - Only ...

Re: Chill out, it's a drysuit

I've worn my drysuit in the Alps for a couple of years and found the best way was to stay unchanged until the very last minute. Make sure the shuttle is done and the faff has finished before committing to putting anything on. Once kitted up go and sit in the river until the rest of the group are rea...

Re: Can you swim?

I would agree with Jim on this one. I took a big one last Summer on the Dart in high flows and found that I needed to swim just to reach the surface. Once there I was spending around 50% of the time back under the surface (at least it felt like that). I realised quite quickly that the bank was where...

I posted in Paddling Partners when I moved to Devon and have now made lots of new paddling buddies; so a big thumbs up from me. It's been so successful in fact that I haven't bothered to join a club and I'm not sure I actually will. I guess there was a slight 'Billy No Mates' stigma attached but lif...

As the title suggests really. i've just moved to Chudleigh and would like to meet up with other paddlers. If you wouldn't mind me tagging along with you send me a pm. I've got most of August off work so i'm keen to get plenty of week day runs down the Upper Dart in.

I'm sorry your first experience of buying a boat has left you feeling unhappy. My guess is that ...
