Yellow boat in the Kent

I drove over the river Kent at Levens hall this morning and saw a yellow kayak in the bushes on river left. If you lost one on the Kent/Sprint/Mint this weekend its worth going down to have a look.

Re: Trip Insurance.

I've always used BMC - only claimed once and they were very good. However they are quite expensive.

Has anybody got any experience with Essential Travel?

White water kayaking comes under there grd 2 policy, for which you can get a couples annual worldwide policy for just over £100!

Mekong - Information required

The girlfriend and I will be spending the school summer holidays (5 weeks in late July/August) travelling around Thailand/Vietnam/Laos & Cambodia. Whilst its not a 'boating holiday' I would really like to get out on the Mekong. I know its the monsoon season - so I'm probably looking at big volume bo...

Paddled this on 21/1/12 at 0.78 on EA gauge

In the rapid below the weir and above Ulpha gorge there was a tree below the surface. I dindt see it until I was on top of it and it caused one of our group to pin and then swim.

Paddled the Leven today (Sat 10th December 2011). At the put in there were some new signs regarding salmon redds, theyre from the EA and talk about wading causing damage. They make no mention of kayakers. After reading the signs we were approached by a man who introduced himself as David Hall, an En...

Re: BCU Participation Survey

The questions about 'your last canoeing session' is rather limiting if this was not representative of your normal range of activities. Agreed, for me and I guess many other people the last time I was in a boat was the WWPF, so drove over 100 miles to get there. This isnt representative of a usual w...

Re: Paddled something recently? - EA Gauge Calibrations

Paddled Tarn Brook into the Wyre last night. The EA gauge at Abbeystead read 0.4m which I would say gave a medium water grade 2/3. The biggest hazard was trees - we managed to sneak around a few but had to poratge one. Paddled from a small confluence on Tarn Brook down through Abbeystead resevoir, p...

Patrick's Birthday hike up the (previously unrun) Gyundi. That’s one walk in I’d do again purely for the sheer (no pun intended) awesomeness of the walk-in itself! Do you have any pics online of the cliff traverse? Are we talking about this one? http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i260/dgoadby/DSCF03...

I took out the Jessops insurance when I bought my camera - £60 for three years accidental damage of the body and kit lens. Can kayakers learn from this? I think the same general principals apply- Have the correct safety equipment with you - know how to use it. Understand the principals of whats happening to you - ie you may need to swim down. Make sure the people your with know how to conduct rescues if required. Its a...

Some local (South devon) publicity: http://www.thisissouthdevon.co.uk/news/Richard-s-24-hour-rapids-challenge-aims-raise-cash/article-3233996-detail/article.html Looks like his already difficult challenge just got even harder! Richard, from Norfolk, will paddle up and down a 7km stretch of river.
