Re: Annoyed, fed up. BC don't get it?
I’m in sympathy with the original poster about contested access as we get hassle down here in deepest Devon. I however disagree that our governing bodies aren’t working hard to improve access, Ben Seal at BC is very active and enthusiastically engaging government and all parties and has initiated th...

Re: Pyranha 9R '2' - what's the difference?
So while we are talking about boat design, the 9R was stated that it was faster? How is this quantified? In mph? In a dynamic environment how is this recorded or is it just a feel how it gets down a rapid?

Parking at Holne Weir on the Dart
Hi folks this is a polite request to park more considerately near Holne Weir. A local resident has written to the BCU because there has been some incidences of parking next to the new gate installed by the BCU downstream of the Weir. It’s not illegal to park there but does make motorists who use the...

Re: next step in when to go boating?
So I have a kind of theory that when a weather site predicts 25mm we get vastly less, more like 5mm. Today we had forecast 5mm and we get almost 25mm. It’s what makes boating interesting, we follow the gauges, forecasts and look for any signs of water. Love it

Re: Access and facility charging at Canolfan Tryweryn
No one complains about paying for CIWW yet we get complaints for paying for CTWWC. Are paddlers happy the centre is shutdown and releases are random as and when the water board want them and not advertised? As an occasional visitor it seems a good resource when it's dry in Devon.

So we are agreed then that after 4 pages on this thread that we all teach different things in differing orders. We can't even agree on how to leave an eddy therefore beginners must be a little concerned reading the advice above.

BCU fees to rise in 2017
I see our erstwhile governing body is to raise the standard adult fee to £45 which I think I'm right is up from £38? A arise of approx 15% which is 7.5% per year since the last rise.

Nyloc nuts are a great solution but care is needed as they need a screwdriver in all the time when they are being tightened. With a Phillips screw head they can easily chew up the cross slots.

Re: There was Canoeists and Anglers
When a river is clear then fish are generally more cautious in coming out of cover as they are more visible to their predators. If a kayak or kayaker disturbs the bottom of a river and colours the water with a muddy cloud then the fish can become more confident plus food on the bottom maybe moved. S...

Re: Symonds Yat, am I being tight?
Why is £17 being expensive for a days paddling at CIWW? Guaranteed water, changing facilities, safety set up on bank, cafe and the lovely Ronnie onsite. Compare the £17 to a round of golf, a few hours at the cinema, a football match etc. To me seems a reasonable price for a full days entertainment.

Re: Alps Italian/france boarder Parking
So you are saying the hire car company are charging a surcharge to take the car out of Italy? Seems a little strange, when I have hired a car at Geneva to go to the French Alps there has not been a surcharge? What are they asking per day?
