Re: Scottish Boaters, Nov 3 - 8

There are 45 of up for a paddling trip in Roybridge next week, unfortunately we leave on the 3rd! Think I'll rearrange my trip to the Roy that week then; stowed out rivers is why I don't paddle down south! LOL Joking aside, I hope you have a good time. I was down at the Etive last weekend; can't be...

Paddling in Canada

Folks, I'm over in Canada next year for a holiday. Heading to the Banff, Jasper and Canmore areas to do some treking, biking and general sightseeing, but really keen to get in a couple of rivers too. Would be a waste not too. So, if anyone can recommend anything around grade 4, I'd rerally appreciat...

Re: Inverness to Fort William

I'd try http://www.explorehighland.com for hire, taxi service and general advice. Donald, who runs it, is a local expert kayaker/canoeist and knows the Great Glen Canoe Trail like the back of his hand. He regularly guides trips along the trail and runs a smooth, friendly service :)

Re: Any paddlers from Inverness Canoe Club?

Hey up, I'm the old ICC webmaster...no one has replaced me this year, so the site is a little out of date...should be up to speed soon(ish) though. There's plenty sea kayaking and river paddling in the club. Drop me a PM if you don't hear back via the email address...also, try www.inverpaddle.com Th...

Looks to me like they've not renewed their domain name and some domain banking company has now bought it; schoolboy error!

Have they noticed yet, though? They're still linking to the now defunkt domain via their main website...

Re: Feedback: Moriston River Race

I was actually half excpecting to see a film crew there. BBC Alba like to get along to loads of events in the Highlands, even if the BBC down south don't, and STV has a reporter based in Inverness who goes to music festivals, out events etc. to report. May be a good chance to really raise the profil...

Re: Feedback: Moriston River Race

Wondering whether there'd be an chance that the safety teams could switch round mid-day; maybe between or after the first two runs? It's a long day for those invovled, standing in one place, and switching positions could maybe help to keep things fresh and interesting for those invovled? Particularl...

Re: Diesel, Varan, Sherpas and Throwline on the Findhorn

Was just about to post on here to say that we found one of the boats, but Lucas beat me to it! It was wedged in trees on the corner just below Carnage Corner - drink bottle still inside! No real damage and still looks nice and new...shame about the Diesel, we had a good look after finding the Varun,...

Re: Im looking for a Riot Sniper or similar

Lewis, I don't think many folk in the UK paddle Riot boats; certainly I've rarely seen them about on the rivers up here...so you may struggle to find one... If you're looking for a creeker/river runner, have you tried Wavesport Diesels, Dagger Nomads/Mambas, Pyranha Burns etc.? They're all good boat...

Re: WANTED First River Boat

Hi Lewis, I'm probably about to sell a Wavesport Diesel...maybe my 75, or maybe my 65, not yet decided...depends on what new boat I buy! Both are in good condition, well looked after and stored inside, but both also have the scratches etc. you'd expect from 3 years of use. Outfitting in both boats i...

WANTED: Dagger Nomad 8.1

Hi Folks, I'm thinking about buying a Dagger Nomad 8.1. Looking for one in pretty good shape, not a totally battered old warrior! I'm located in Inverness, but can travel down to the central belt; further than that and I'd need to look at postage options. Has anyone got anything going spare?! Many t...

Re: Hydro....

Morsey is absolutely right. Moaning about applications for hydro scheme when they come in is far too late. The SCA, canoe clubs and individuals need to lobby the Scottish Government to get them to introduce national polices which safeguard recreational rivers or, following the NZ model, require deve...

Re: SPEAN GORGE SIPHON - WARNING

I'd second Chris' proposal to rename Headbanger on the Roy... There's always been a bit of confusion with these duplicate names, not least given the rivers are so close together... As a bang on the head is the least of your worries on this Roy feature now, a change in title may help tp clear up any ...

Re: Lost Paddles on the Garry

They'd be doing well to get to the sea matey! They would need to either: 1) Go down the River Oich, through the locks at Ft. Augustus, all the way up Loch Ness and then either make it down the River Ness or out via two flights of locks on the Calley Canal; or 2) Make it through the locks at Laggan, ...

Cheap Werner Paddle Wanted

Hi Folks, I'm looking for a cheap Werner paddle - preferably glass shaft and blades, around 194ish and right-handed... Not looking for anything brand spanking new, just a back-up paddle for use on scrapy rock slide type rivers. I'm located in Inverness, so unless you live in the bonnie Highlands too...

Garry Access

I was browsing through the Forestry Commission's website today (don't ask why) and came across a tool which shows what land they own across Scotland. I thought, just out of interest, that I'd have a wee look to see what they owned in and around the River Garry... http://www.ruralaccent.com/caidheaga...

Trees in the Lower Findhorn

Folks, A few of us took a paddle down the Lower Findhorn today. Not as low as we expected and fab warm weather (and water)...but, there are still some rogue trees about to watch out for... 1) The Cauldron at Randolph's Leap - still two trees in there. One at the entrance and one at the exit. Makes g...

There's one proposed near Invermoriston...it'll dam Loch nam Breac Ruadh and discharge into Loch Ness near Invermoriston...not sure if it'll impact on paddling water or not, but as hydros go it's supposed to be a biggy...maybe something to keep an eye on? Might also be an idea to contact the plannin...

Buy a new one if you can't find a S/H one...the D75 is only about £600/700 new and the outfitting, while not the same as the old Diesel 75, is still adequate...
