Re: British Canoeing Sea Kayak Coach

I'm not part of the system. I just took a look, out of curiosity, and quickly got confused.

If this is the 'streamlined and simplified' version, I dread to imagine what the current scheme looks like.

Launch at Appledore (conjunction of Taw and Torridge estuaries), paddle in any direction...out to sea if it looks calm.

What camera do you use?
The majority of the photos are mine. I use Nikon's cheapest and smallest SLR, albeit with an expensive image-stabilised 18-300 lens attached.

Re: Kernow Grand Tour

The article is Liz's.

Ten years after writing a guidebook (which has sold pretty well) I also am amazed how little attention Cornwall gets, especially for expedition - style trips.

Re: Fettling a kinked skeg wire

Just picking up on a few points made here... - Our Cornwall holiday was a wonderful trip, but nothing extreme/ impressive in execution. With the patience to watch the weather and wait, anyone can enjoy this. - In posting about the trip, I wasn't looking for praise, just feedback and discussion: I ge...

Re: East Lyn nasty

Splendid, well done!

It was evil the other day, the water level was just enough to hide it. I managed to boof it (more by luck), my friend got sucked under it... scary but thankfully he and boat flushed through.

East Lyn nasty

The East Lyn River has a *very* nasty tree hazard, just below the gorge... a log hidden in a drop, that you can't avoid in low water and won't see until the moment you potentially go under it. It's around a blind bend several drops after Crux B. Be careful out there, folks.

You presented a made-up problem No, the problem is very real. Look at the sea forum page and tell me what you overwhelmingly see... posts about going paddling, or posts about stuff? Which kinds of post get multiple responses and extensive discussion, and which flatline? And we're not even on the ge...

Yeah, pretty much as I thought.

I tend not to read much of this forum as I'm interested in paddling and places.

As someone noted, a post I recently made about going paddling garnered zero response/ interest. This post is almost viral...

It must grind your gut that you have to be political and 'thank' the EA for doing exactly what they were supposed to have done in the first place.

Re: BoaterX - Have your say

I note that a load of (several) freestyle paddlers have got themselves in a tizzy over this. As far as I can tell, their irritation boils down to, "Hey, we're cool and slalom isn't...how dare slalom cross over to our territory and make us less cool." Given that the sum total of all committed slalom ...

Re: River Severn - Source to Sea

I paddled c40 miles of the upper Severn a year ago, across the Welsh border, and have paddled most of the river down through the Midlands in the past. I'm not adverse to a bit of flat water touring, but I am going to say it...I think the Severn is a little bit boring. Not much going on, canalised ba...

I would thank him for his interest, but point out that we already enjoy full access and that anything he could offer would effectively be imposing restrictions on our right to enjoy our river heritage.

If he disagrees, politely direct him to his solicitor.

The bribe he wanted to resolve the situation was astronomical. We got in as short walk from Juphail not paying the bribe. Your memory is flawed Mark - I paid the bribe to the bastard - he wouldn't let us leave town without it, even though we weren't ever intending on entering the park. $100 I think...
