Re: RIVER CALDER (Thornholme Farm to Sellafield)

The river-wide blockage I mentioned above was still there today.

Paddled through Sellafield with no issues.

Re: UK classics

This book sounds like an awesome idea, and I'd certainly want it on my bookshelf. I can (unfortunately) tell you that it'll have to be a labour of love, though - it won't sell in any numbers remotely likely to give you a return on the time and resources that go into it. The Pesda England/ Scotland W...

I can't see why you'd want a two handed camera out on the ocean.
Because, one day, this will happen.

Crappy old SLR and an image stabilised/ VR lens are the way to go.

Re: RIVER CALDER (Thornholme Farm to Sellafield)

A river-wide tree currently blocks the river in an S-bend gorge, maybe 1.5km below Calder Bridge. As the sun had already set a while before, we egressed to the road on river right.

Four sheep fences currently need portaging (Dec 2022) - the last is directly above the confluence with Worms Gill.

Fantastic run!

Thanks,

Re: SWSK3

Thanks for all the contributions so far - so useful ideas. Any more updates on 'South West Sea Kayaking' very welcome, as I'm still working on it! I will read up more on Pacific Oysters, that is a new one on me. It's just occurred to me (nothing to do with the book) that the Lynher-Tiddy trip would ...

SWSK3

Hi there. This message is for those who own a copy of my guidebook 'South West Sea Kayaking' - the book has just sold out its most recent print run (just a few copies left on Amazon I think) and I'm working on the third edition. Make my job easier, please - what is out of date? What has changed in t...

Thanks Chris. I'd post a whole lot more about this amazing adventure if folk were interested, but I can see that I have been hugely eclipsed by a query about towing eyes.

Re: South East Kayak trail- least portage?..

River Thames is (perhaps surprisingly) outstanding, and no portaging necessary

Pub Paddles is excellent, but based around short paddles. To the pub.

Surely not Steve Fisher after he has his crowdfunding safety video rip off of just a few years ago, good folk don't do that.

I would like to paddle with Sam Ellis (whom I haven't crossed paths with yet)
I briefly met him in Switzerland, a few weeks back. Seemed a nice enough chap, but the main topic of conversation afterwards was whether the shirtless wall of muscle we'd just encountered was actually Ragnar Lothbrok.

Italy/ Switzerland trip 2018

Just returned from a week of boating with a group of fellow out-of-shape and out-of-practice middle-aged friends...here follow a few river notes, that may or may not be of use to folk. Basically our trip was dictated by two things; water levels (i.e. what wasn't too high/ scary) and the fact that we...
