Re: Whitewater Kayaking in South East China - ANY IDEAS?

Hi,

I am in Shanghai and keen for some paddling too. Thinking of the Salween during Chinese New Year...

I'll send you a PM with my Wechat ID.

Cheers,

Re: 6Ft 4 and looking a good drysuit

I'm tall and slim and have had the same issue as you. So, I got a Kokatat made to measure drysuit. Expensive but worth it - 100% dry and a good fit. System X do the services in the UK for them now as well so no issues with having to send it back to the US for that either.

Don't do it. Claimed for camera lens damage with them once - nightmare.

On the other hand the BCU insurance (Towergate Marine) is superb. Had to make a claim the other day - all sorted within a few days.

We went in July a few years ago and got lucky with a few days of heavy rainfall before arriving. Levels were high and dropping over the week which worked out perfectly... Going again this year so hoping for similar!

There is lots of good stuff near to Hattfjelldal. Re: Dartmoor access during 'closed' season (FACTS needed)

Hi Pete, Yes, I made reference to many points in your update in the email. Thanks for providing it. I think I get this: The Brighton Reports showed that access agreements could work as demonstrated ona few examples from lowland rivers. Guidance from the EA and DEFRA states 'spate access throughout t...

Re: Dartmoor access during 'closed' season (FACTS needed)

Interesting to hear that you guys had grief. I've never experienced any issues in the summer (perhaps I've just been lucky) but it's valuable to know others have. Of course it's something to bear in mind with a group of young people. Anyway, thanks for all the thoughts and info. An email has been dr...

Re: Dartmoor access during 'closed' season (FACTS needed)

Thanks for all the info so far. GumGum, thanks for putting it so well. I certainly wouldn't go without explicit permission of the school considering potential repercussions. However, I am planning on putting it to those in charge. If anyone has any links handy to specific relevant policies (e.g. CEs...

Re: Dartmoor access during 'closed' season (FACTS needed)

One potential matter may be that the school may receive communications from land owners or DFA threatening trespass and resulting injunctions This is my concern... It all seems to be one opinion over another without any clearly defined legal status - which is what I really need. Without it, it is p...

Dartmoor access during 'closed' season (FACTS needed)

Without wanting to open another can of worms I was hoping some in the know might be able to offer some advice with regards to the official position with paddling on Dartmoor during the closed season. I run a school canoe club. We often paddle on Dartmoor (mainly the Dart) for our Games sessions and ...

Re: Flying boats to Zambezi

To get from Lusaka to Livingstone get the Mazhandu Family Bus (a bus company). They leave at the time they say they are going to leave and it's best to book a ticket in advance. The business class bus is best - it's actually pretty comfortable (inc. AC) plus you get a snack en route. I'm not sure ab...

Re: River East Lyn - Brendon to Watersmeet

There is a tree on the Brendon section on a sneaky corner a few hundred metres above the double drop (the river goes from right to left and back to the right). Possible to pass on the left, but it might be a little late by the time you see it... Best to take a look.

Yep, it's in Austria. One other clue - there is a 'must run' which is pretty hard to scout as well.

Hop in the car, you could be there in approx 12 hours (although you'd be much more likely to be skiing in the area now).

Used Dagger Nomad 8.5

I am selling my Nomad 8.5. It is red and 5 years old. It's big, comfy and paddles predictably - a great boat! There is a split under the seat that has been welded and seems to be holding up fine. There are scratches on the back deck from when a courier company managed to damage it en route from A to...
